I’m confused about something, should I e-mail a mod? Is it possible for me to e-mail a mod? If that’s not what I should do, what should I do insted? Should I put my question, (which isn’t really something other people would care about, so I don’t want to waste their time/space by putting it up).
If it’s about a specific thread/post, use the report this post function which is in the top right corner of every post. If it’s about the board in general, best would be to probably email Tubadiva at tubadiva@aol.com with the SDMB: in the subject heading.

The report button says “report bad post”… That sounds like I’m abusing the post/thread, I’m actually just wanting to ask about it. Shoud I still do the same thing?
I don’t think it makes much difference: it says “report bad post”, but it’s really just to give a modmin a heads up about what’s in a thread - could be about fixing bad coding, whatever - you’re not “abusing the function” just because the post isn’t bad. If your question’s about a specific thread or post, they’d probably appreciate a direct link to what you’re asking about than e-mailing them separately with a URL and have to have them go look for it.
You’re not going to get blasted for hitting the Dreaded Red Button needlessly: some modmins are actually approachable - nice, even - and besides, the “whoop, whoop!” sirens and strobing lights that get triggered whenever the DRB is hit provide them with valuable cerebral stimulation in an otherwise dreary and thankless routine. Really, you’ll be doing 'em a favour.

The message is just boilerplate for the vBulletin system. We very rarely tweak the messages and coding on the SDMB, as the message board is very far down on the list of priorities for the tech guy at the Chicago Reader.
Reporting a post will send an email to all of the mods or admins that moderate the particular forum. For instance, only TubaDiva will get an email if a post in ATMB is reported, and nobody else. If you have a question about a particular forum, it’s best to report a post in that forum, so that the mods who mostly work in that forum will get the email. We do forward emails around the mod email loop, if we’re at all uncertain about the proper course of action.

If anyone has any questions about a post, go ahead and report it. Generally, we don’t reply to the reporter about posts, but we DO look at them. Sometimes we take action on the board, sometimes we email the offender, and sometimes we just look at the post and decide that there’s nothing wrong with it.

I’m not even drawn that way, not any more, I have a Volvo now, and I don’t drink or take drugs or have one night stands or anything, any more. I’ve grown up a lot (especially considering I’m only 18).

Cool, thanks :). I was just a bit scared of pressing the big red button for a very unimportant little question. Also, I thought the thing to do would be to e-mail one of you, but I couldn’t find any way of doing that (and of course I had no idea what the big red button actually did, I thought it might send you a message saying “this post has been reported to be spam” which would only waste your time and wouldn’t help anyone at all)
This forum is called About This Message Board, not About Jessica Rabbit. This behaviour is generally frowned upon in the factual forums (GQ, GD, ATMB, CoCC, CoSR).
Ok, I give up. Thankyou, to those who helped me. But I just can’t find a way of opening my mouth without offending someone.
Reading a few of your posts, I don’t think you have particularly said anything wrong. My impression is that you really are just wide-eyed excited and cheerful about anything and everything. Simply, the people on this board are all used to dealing with brainiac cynics since…well that’s most of what everyone here is. And overall your posts are just confusing them and they don’t know how to take outright honesty.
Personally I hope you’ll stay as having someone nice about is of course nice. I might recommend you don’t in fear that you’ll be eaten up and spit out. But you’ll have to decide that. Either way, if you don’t have the money to sign up I’d be happy to sponsor you. (Ain’t no complaints in being an eighteen year old Jessica Rabbit’s sugar daddy.

Dude, chill. It’s a humorous response to a joke post, and you’ll see eighty of them in every thread you read in every forum here. You probably have posted thousands yourself so I don’t know what it is that got up your butt about this particular one.
