It was a joke? Hows about a smiley then? And you’re “trapping” me? There’s a word for that, and it’s frowned upon.
The day “sarcasm” is frowned upon is the day I say buy-bye to the SDMB.
And again the phrase “what the fuck ever” leaps to mind.
Here’s a thought, Otto; why don’t you tell us how you think Heroes could be improved, and if you don’t think it needs improvement, your issue is with the original poster, not the respondents.
Those types of characters are fun to have in the background, or as throwaway Sylar snacks and the like, but can you really make a show about them? Or, at least, the kind of action-drama that we’ve come to expect from Heroes?
I mean, it might be interesting to examine how the Fastest Maid Alive tries to set up a business while dodging the prejudice of the mundanes (is it fair to outcompete mundane workers? what if she didn’t want to be a maid, it’s just all her powers are good for?), but that’s not what Heroes has been about. Never has been. It’s always been about superhero fights and melodrama, and frankly, that’s the way it should stay.
I do agree with everyone that something needs to be done about Peter and Hiro. And the revelation about Claire’s blood was a mistake. But, even once we remove the plot-breaking powers, there’s plenty of room left for impressive, flashy abilities.
Much of what I think needs to be improved about the show has already been touched upon: the pacing issues, the new characters who no one cares about, and so on. Some of the other things that have been mentioned, like the ones I’ve responded to, I disagree with. Not really seeing why you have such a hard-on over my responses but I guess if it makes you feel noble to think you’re taking one for the team by talking to me who am I to disillusion you.
No, they’re both. “Sport” is the more general term, and includes both genetic mutants – which it seems clear the Heroes are – and organisms that differ from the “type” for their species for other reasons.
I guess we’ve gotten down to a basic question about the intent of the show. If it’s just a comic book on tv, with the standard comic book storytelling conventions, then it’s just a lame version of X-Men. If it’s supposed to be something different, then it really needs some more thoughtful writing.
Complete with Phoenixes all over!
