I’ve developed, slowly, over the last several years, a curve in my spine. It’s up at the top, just below where my neck meets my back. I’m worried that it is osteoperosis or something…
Anyway, is there anything I can do about it? Can I stop it from getting worse? Can I correct what has already happened?
You seem to be young for worrying about osteoperosis, but it is not anything to fool around with. Go to a doctor and if he thinks it could be osteoperosis then he will have a bone density test run. There is a medicine that can stop the effects and actually rebuild bone. The curvature of the spine near the neck is a good enough sign for you to take action now.
Your family doctor can diagnose but pilates is something totally different. If you cant afford it the next best thing would be astanga yoga. These things may sound ‘new agey’ but I can vouch for their effectiveness. Consult your doc’ though! He is likely to backup my story =)
I make this suggestion having been treated successfully for curvature of the spine as a child: contact your physician and ask him if training with a licensed physical therapist is warranted. Many hospitals have clinics which can provide services on an outpatient basis.
