About six weeks ago I moved into an apartment that was recently renovated. While I thought what I was smelling was new paint, he sink area still smells strongly of turpentine, paint thinner, gasoline, or something similar. If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say that management knocked over a can of the stuff onto the subfloor while painting and then laid the linoleum over it. Either that or the previous tenant stored kerosene or gasoline under the sink.
It’s not a horrifically strong smell, but it bugs me. Is there a way to get rid of or, at least, minimize the odor? And, yes, I’m sure I could call management and have them fix it, but I’d rather be the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, rather than the sledgehammer. That and I’ve a plan and really want to curry favor with the anti-dog bastards.
The best odor removal is zeolite. You can get it at hardward and pet stores. Look for something like “Natural Volantic Rock” on the layer.
This stuff will take the smell of ANYTHING out of ANYTHING. Our most famous use was in a house where someone died on a hot Friday in July and was found on Monday.
Trust Annie-Xmas! She is turned me on to this stuff about a month ago, and my car smells…well, doesn’t smell anymore. Took out the smell of gas, and the overpowering air freshener smell I attempted to use.
Thank you Casey. I’m always recommending this stuff, and nobody believes it till they use it and don’t smell it! This is an odor remover. It doesn’t add any scent, just takes it away.
I’m wondering if you don’t have a plumbling leak or something. Any paint thinner smells should’ve dissapated by now, even if new flooring was instaled over it. But, if the subfloor keeps getting even a little bit wet, then the smell can come back. Worth a check.
