If I plant sugar snap peas from the peas inside the sugar snap pods in my produce drawer, will they grow into plants? I’ve only planted the dried-out ones from packets, but I’ve got a large bag from Costco to eat which are starting to get kind of sad looking, and I thought it’d be nice to plant some if they’d grow. If they do breed true, would I be better off sprouting them first or planting them the way they are?
It depends on how mature the peas (seeds) are. If you break open the peas, are there tiny leaves in the peas? do they separate naturally into two halves? If they seem full size, give it a try. You certainly have very little to lose.
Hummmmmmmm! I went plant mine today and discovered my wife failed to buy enough seed.
I do believe you pick them while they are tender and immature. In which case, they won’t germinate.
I heard 4’’ of rain over the weekend. Who knows when I may ge mine planted.
These are fairly full-sized peas. I’ll give it a try.
Mature peas are hard and the pods are dry and hard. The ones in the pods at a store are not. Go buy seed and don’t waste your effort planting immature seed.
