last year I bought (leased?) a domain name and web hosting to make a website to post pictures and videos of our new son so that the grandparents could check in and see him as he grew. Now I’m making a site for my wife’s parents so they can try to rent out their vacation home that they don’t use very often. The problem is that the site has the goofy web address that I picked for my son’s site. Is there any way I can hide/fake the web address to appear to be something more professional and relevant, or do we need to get another web hosting account?
If you mean the domain name portion of the web address is what you’d like to change (e.g., change http://www.mygoofywebsite.com/something to MyProfessionalSite.com is for sale | HugeDomains), then the only way to change it is to buy the new domain name (myprofessionalsite.com) . You can still configure the new domain to point to your existing web host provider, so you don’t need to buy another web host provider’s services. Domain names are pretty cheap these days so this shouldn’t be a big deal. Assuming you bough the domain domain name and web hosting services from the same company (e.g., Network Solutions), they should be able to set you up with a new domain name pretty easily.
BTW, this question is probably better suited to General Questions, since there is no specific Chicago aspect to it. No big deal, I’m sure a moderator will be along to movie it shortly.
