Can I import graphics created in InDesign into MS Word?

The question probably tells you all you need to know to answer my question. If you must have details: the bottom line is, I have a 250-page MS Word document that contains a bunch of wildly varying tables, charts, figures, graphs, etc. etc., some of which were done in Word using the picture tools, others of which were imported from PowerPoint or Excel. (All the work done by different people, so if there are 5 ways to accomplish the same result using different features, you can bet all 5 have been used in various places).

The client wants a ready-to-print book back – meaning all this has to be standardized and prettified. Naturally, the time frame and budget are tight.

If I can hire someone to lay out the whole document in InDesign, I will. If that is not an option … could I have a designer make all the tables/charts/figures/etc. look consistentlly styled and attractive using InDesign and then paste them one by one as graphics back into a nice clean Word doc?

Yes.

Thanks! I have a designer on the case now…she’ll give me a price and time estimate on both methods soon (though she says if I just want the charts done up, she’d probably do that in Illustrator).

Word can import any image format, but charts are best saved as GIFs, as they are designed to deal with low colour ranges (256 colours maximum). If GIFs seem inappropriate, try JPGs or PNGs.
