Someone has sent me several files that need to be incorporated into a Word document. They are in a format my computer can’t recognize and I need to get them into a Word document so that I can print them.
I have gotten a couple into Word by using a text box, then pulling the file into the box. However, this loses formatting–specifically, there are horizontal bar graphs indicating percentage of responses, and once I put the thing into Word all the bar graphs are the same length.
Any help or hints appreciated. Intermediate steps are okay. (For example, if I can put it into Excel then import it into Word without losing the formatting–that would work. If I lose the formatting–that won’t work.) Links to instructional websites are okay. What I am NOT going to do is pay money to SurveyMonkey just so I can incorporate this data into my document.
If you just need to print them, why don’t you just make a screen capture and paste it into Word or turn the webpage into a PDF. HoverSnap is a nice little app for creating screen caps.
I do not have the data in tables. The SurveyMonkey website says you can put the graphs into Excel, but I haven’t been able to figure that out, either.
The graphs are from a program called SurveyMonkey and they say they are html. When I right-click saving is not an option. However, if I put the cursor on the bar chart part of the graph, it will save that. As a long, skinny, bar chart. (None too helpful.)
When I click on them, they open up as html files, and they save as web pages. And I can save them as web page (complete), or various other options. But I need to convert them to something I can print, and none of these options seems to be working.
At work I am using Word 2000. However, I sent the files home and tried various things in Word 2003 and got no further than before.
I can also save them as PDF files, but then some of the formatting goes away. That may just have to work, though.
I may be missing something, but if you can view them from your web browser (like any other html file) why can’t you print them from there? I don’t see a need to use Word unless you actually require them in a document format for some reason.
Also, as biometricks said, you can very easily do a screen capture and paste that into Word, if you really have to. If you can see on the screen everything you need, just hit PrtSc (printscreen) and it will save what’s on the screen to the clipboard. From there you can open Paint and paste it, then save it as a bitmap or gif or jpeg. Alternately, if you have to scroll to see the content there are programs that will take a printscreen of the entire document. That’s probably what the linked program does. If not, you can search for free, full screen capture programs out there.
Yes, they’re going into a document, and they need to be in the document format and correctly sized for the image area.
I think the screen capture thing is going to work. I tried it earlier but on some of them I couldn’t get the whole image. But I think that linked program is going to work. So thanks to everybody for the help and thanks to biometricks for the link.
A really crappy, low tech method is to use the PrtScn (Print Screen) key on your keyboard to capture a picture of your image from SurveyMonkey…then paste it into an image editor, or into Word directly…
If you copy the tables from Internet Explorer, you can post them, complete with only-slightly-screwed-up formatting, directly into a Word doc. Tweak afterwards, bada bing.
