I have an LG Escape 2 (model LG-H433), running Android 5.1.1 . From time to time when I try to download an app, it will tell me that I have insufficient storage, despite the fact that there are over 29 GB of memory available on the additional memory card that I bought to alleviate this problem.
I tried to download a memory manager app onto my phone, but there was insufficient memory.
So, I deleted some apps I haven’t used for a while, thinking that once I moved a bunch of files over to the extra storage, there’d be room to reinstall those apps I’d removed. The 2 or 3 apps I installed, I seemed unable to perform the activities I had in mind, so I uninstalled them as well.
So I have two questions: Can I move files from one memory storage device to another? Can I install apps directly to the additional memory card?
(BTW, the phone shows the memory card, calling it “External Storage.”)
Thanks in advance!
You can’t on 5.1.1 (Lollipop). You can on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) if your phone’s manufacturer allows it. Some don’t. The short answer is, no, you can’t on your phone.
no you have to root it first and then possibly get an app that writes something on the card allowing you to save apps on it
since I missed the edit … I was going to add
I found all this out after I went on the net and found out my tablet an irulu was too cheap/basic to root …
I have an LG Tribute 2 with 5.1.1 and it does allow some apps (including Kindle, Facebook, and Netflix) to be moved to the SD card.
I have an LG Sunset with 5.1.1, also, and you can move part of some apps to the SD card, but not the entire app. Part of the app still resides in the phone’s internal memory. For example, my Kindle app has 106 MB on the phone and 109 MB on the SD card. That frees up some space, but it’s not the same as having adaptable memory, which treats the SD card as being a full expansion of the phone’s internal memory.
My biggest problem is that Google eats up 90% of the space with crap I don’t want and you can’t do anything with their stuff. On my Samsung I put everything I could onto the SD card and it was 9 out of 35 apps. Google accounts for 11 apps and I use 2.
If you can, go into settings/apps. Then click on the apps you have downloaded. There will be an option on some apps to “Move to SD card”. Do that with a bunch of apps and it should give you more space on the internal memory.
New Android 6.0 phones have removed that option - a new option to “adopt” the SD card as internal memory is in that version, BUT LG and Samsung have DISABLED it! (Buy only a brand which will allow you to do what you want/need.)
You need fast [4K or 10 or 3] memory for the adopting option. Can only buy this fast memory online at this point.
Or only buy a phone with a LOT of internal memory if they won’t allow you to move anything to the SD card.
Memory is cheap these days. I don’t see why they just give you 1 or 2 GB of internal memory??? My SD cards are 32GB…
