I don’t mean the online radio sites, Itunes and other related schemes. I mean, for example, could I buy an AM/FM radio program for my computer, with a digital interface, and a very powerful antenna that I could put up outside and connect to the computer, so that I could manipulate the radio on my computer and listen to it in the manner that I do Winamp right now?
And are there running radio streams online that I can patch into via the url function of Winamp?
You’ll have to find the D-link one used, as they quit making them a few years back. Also, no “PC radio” thingy will have AM on it, as the intense EMI from your PC would make AM nothing but static - much like playing AM radio near a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner that’s running. Now if you want to spend serious coin, there are several SW gigs out there for the PC. If you really want to listen to music, why not just buy a decent radio like this and put it on your desk?
I have a stereo system (radio, cassette deck, eight track, turntable) connected to my computer.
I ran audio cables from the speaker jacks on the back of the stereo to the Aux. jack of my soundcard. I use Winamp’s line-in plugin to listen. I can also use a Winamp plugin to record to .mp3.
If your soundcard has an Aux. (or Mic.) port, this technique should work with any radio that has any sort of an “out” jack (headphone or speaker jacks).
