I’m buying a digital radio unit to add to my amp and other separates. I guessing the only option if I want to record from that digi radio onto CD is to buy a CD recorder as a separate unit ?
But I don’t know anything about what might be done via the computer – are there any software options that might combine with Internet radio, can I record from Internet radio onto a CD direct ?
Last question, how about setting a timer and doing all this ?
Well, if you can get the sound into your computer’s soundcard, Audio Recorder Deluxe is nice software. It records whatever is going on in your soundcard (streaming radio, turntable, midi keybaord etc.) into MP3 format. There is a mini-editor for trimming and a timer as well. Once you have the MP3, burning a CD is easy.
As for getting the sound from your radio device into your computer, that is another issue. I have heard that they make soundcards with RCA cable input, and I have heard there is a cheap product that converst RCA cable to a little mic jack that will go into the back of any soundcard. I know people rip MP3’s of their vinyl all the time, so the solution can’t be too difficult.
If your computer has a microphone/audio-in jack, can’t you get a cable that converts from 1/8" miniplug to stereo RCA ports, and use that to pipe the audio into your computer?
You might want to consider buying a digital TV receiver instead, depending on what you want to hear. Digital Freeview does many digital radio channels too, and often at better quality. Some channels are even broadcast on digital radio in mono!
This site here explains the whole mess, and also has some (quite techie) info on connecting up to digital inputs on PC soundcards.
