I want to mod or update my regular stereo Nokia (6230) handsfree kit with
either a mini-jack or similar plug so I can connect better headphones.
I’ve taken the thing apart and it looks like I could attach the part
(and make the housing bigger) - but I am wondering if the headphones
are special ‘low voltage’ or something which would mean regular
in-the-ear or miniband headphones wouldn’t have enough power. Where
can I find this out - since my nokia can take a gb of mp3’s (a 6230)
it’d be nice if I could add some closed headphones to keep out noise.
What are my options?
My complete WAG as i’ve been up all night and probably half delerious.
I’d imagine a better route would be to take your stereo headset and cut off the end then splice it to a mini-jack. You wouldn’t be damaging the actual phone. Also you can continue to use the headset on/off button this way(err, with a new headset that is).
I assume phones output very little power. YMMV on a full-size headphone being driven by your phone.
Maybe theres a nokia adapter accessory?
I have no expertise in this field, but there may be other issues besides electrical compatibility to consider. For instance, assuming your hands free kit includes a microphone, you have two-way signals to worry about. And it may be that the phone’s logic disables the mike in the phone’s body when it detects the presence of a plug-in. That kind of interrupt could even be mechanical – plugging in something to the hands-free jack could set a switch that reroutes the mike signal.
That link!
That’s pretty much what I had in mind (though I doubt it has a button on it to skip tracks / change station) - Doesn’t say when it’s available or how much. I’m hoping it will drive my Beyerdynamic DT-321 closed headphones at a useable volume. We’ll see, if it does I can put a gig MMC in my phone (for £50 atm) and not need carry about a second music player.
Looking at the inside of the mic/skip section of the handsfree kit it would appear that regular headphones could be soldered to the PCB, but I’d have no mechanism for disabling the existing phones (and there’d be wires galore too).
oops, thats to a 2.5 jack. I believe you need to convert it to a 3.5 jack.
No no, the 321’s are 2.5 - that’s fine
