Can I post a thread about something entirely legal in one state, but not elsewhere?

No conflicting information, I was mistaken. I defer to Tom’s answer. Sounds about right.

I just wasn’t 100 percent clear on what the specifics were.

Actually, I’ve started a discussion in the mod loop. We’ll get back to you.

Are you claiming that I’m not a jerk? Because if so I’m gonna have to ask for a cite.

Your post is his cite.

Well for one, your name is NOT Skald the Jerk! There being no board rules against being a Rhymer I think you’re safe.

Being an obsessive rhymer is pretty jerkish … or is it jerky?

This is dripping with Awesome.

I don’t know… would you like a turkey?

So THAT’s what’s sticking to my shoe.

Who’s the excessive rhymer is getting pretty murky.

Just read the above in the voices of Fezzik and Inigo in the Princess Bride. But of course, that’s what youse guys were riffing on.

Based on previous rulings on the subject, and discussion by the mods, the present rule is that federal law prevails. In this case, state and federal law conflict (even if federal law isn’t being enforced). We’re not lawyers, and even legal experts are not decided on the issues. Given this situation we are treating marijuana use as not being legal, and will continue to do so as long as it remains illegal under federal law.

Previous statements on the subject can be found here and here.

That’s just a ridiculous policy decision. Have any of you Mods been to Denver or Seattle since pot was legalized? You can walk up to a cop on the street and ask “Where’s the closest pot shop?” and they’ll react the same way they would if you asked “Where’s the nearest grocery store?” They’ll point you in the right direction.

Seriously, you can’t ask what the best pot shop in Colorado is? You can ask that question of anybody in Colorado, even on the Denver Post’s website using your full name and address and they’d print it and you’d never hear a peep from law enforcement - federal, state, or local.

Sheesh.

Huh. I thought they were riffing on “Kirk Berkley’s Turkey Jerky” from Corner Gas.

If that’s the case, then you probably want to ask it of anybody in Colorado (including cops there) rather than on these boards. Just seems like it’d be much easier.

You can describe the specifics of the various laws in different states and how to obtain a medical MJ card. Discussing laws and getting an actual card are not illegal at the Federal level. We have had many such discussions. You can describe what a dispensary is like on the inside. You can describe, in your personal experience, the effects of smoking and vaping versus edibles. You can say that a simple Google search will enable you to find the dispensaries and delivery services in your area. You just can’t give certain specifics.

Well, no, since AFAIK spousal abuse is illegal by state law in all 50 states. We don’t mean that only things that are illegal under federal law are excluded, but things that are illegal within specific jurisdictions.

It would not be illegal to discuss alcohol consumption, since that is legal in most of the US, even if there are some dry counties. However, if you were to ask how to evade the laws against alcohol consumption within a specific dry county I think we would probably exclude that. Advice on how to evade rent-control laws within New York City would also be excluded, even though they only apply within that jurisdiction.

What about a thread regarding marijuana use in, say, Uruguay?

We have not really discussed that issue.

What about a thread discussing civil resistance?
