I just changed my Location field to “22 male, Boston”. I can’t imagine any reason why this would be frowned upon, but maybe I’ll ask, just in case. It seems reasonable to me that the only limitations on what we can put in our location field, signature, and profile would be the same as the limitations on what we can post, so no links to spam or inappropriate material, for instance. But anything else is okay. Is this a good general guideline?
It’s fine, as long as that’s a street address.
In the thread “Post Count Oddities”, SDMB Administrator Arnold Winkelried gave an opinion on what can be placed in the location field.
Basically, nothing misleading, or that violates the Registration Agreement. (From what I infer.)
I liked the old one better… That isn’t nerdy enough :).
Just your credit card number and expiration date.
Colibri: Does it have to be my street address?
wolfstu: Thanks for the link. I guess that answers my question.
Chronos: Yeah, but it was a little too obvious, don’t you think?
OK, show of posts: How many people here know what RA and DEC means. Or, for that matter, know what “Achernar” means.
(looks around)
Nope, not too obvious ;).
Alright, Alec McSmarty, I meant among those who knew what Achernar is it was probably the first joke location field you’d think of, aside from “South end of Eridanus”. It’s like manhattan putting the location of Manhattan in his location field, although that would probably be accurate as well, so nevermind!
Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know! Call on me!
[sup]But what does “22 male” mean?[/sup]
I know for a fact that you cannot list banned as your location.
trust me.
Gasp! I know this one.
[spoiler]Right Ascension and Declination. Achernar is a bright southern hemisphere star.
