can I take out the prompts in the Google search box?

I use Google to search for certain news items, and I’ve got certain things I check up on regularly. It’s handy that Google remembers past searches and when I start typing in a search term, it remembers past searches and gives me prompts.

But sometimes I make typos in entering a search term, so now I’ve got a prompt that doesn’t work. Other times, I no longer need to search a particular item, because it’s no longer of interest. I don’t want those old prompts to come up any more.

Is there a way I can get rid of them? Set a time limit so that if I don’t search that item for 30 days it stops giving me the prompt? Just periodically re-set the memory to no prompts?

That’s not Google, that’s a feature of your browser called Autocomplete. How you deal with the entries depends on which browser you use. In IE, you can turn the features on and off for various types of fields, as well as clear all the entries, under Tools > Internet Options > Content tab > Autocomplete. You can delete a single item from the dropdown listing, by scrolling to it with the mouse and pressing the Delete key.

it worked - thanks, Q.E.D..

It also works for reinstalling the prompts in Google, which I’ve been wanting to do for a while, so thanks again, Q.E.D.

Just for completeness, if you’ve got the Google Toolbar, you can clear its search history by clicking the Google logo and selecting Clear Search History.
