I have a 14 lbs Tidy Cat Container that is empty and I am thinking it would be a great bird house.
The handle can be used to secure the robe to hang it from the tree. I can make an entry way and some vent holes for air and drainage with an exacto knife. The actual opening would not be used for a doorway ( or it could be).
But, would a bird actually use it?
Or should I cut it down to be a bird feeder?
imagines teeny little slippers for the bird to wear when it dons the robe after its herbal wrap

I cannot imagine why not. They build their nests in the damndest places.
You might want to spray-paint the outside, to make it opaque.
But otherwise, why not?
Great, now the neighbor is hanging kitty litter bottles in the trees…
Actually, I think it would work just fine. The $40 catalog-ordered all-natural bird houses my father in law gave me are still vacant after three years, but I bet your containers would be good. Different birds like different sized entrance holes, and the last I read a peg below the entrance hole is bad, only th nuisance birds need them. Good luck!
Side note- here in the rain deprived NE United States, my bird bath is a smash hit, it’s standing room only out there!
I hung it earlier today with a bunch of scrap material and twine peices already scrambled about inside for a Welcome To My Tree gift.
We shall wait and see.
