It’s a very important topic. This is serious. Mike Huckabee may not win the nomination, but he has a coalition of working class voters all over the country. New York City has the most working class whites in any of the states. They voted for Joe Lhota in 2013 for Mayor because they did not see a vision from De Blasio.** Look at the 2013 NYC mayoral map. Please. **
Why? What do we gain? What do we learn?
You learn that these are working class white areas, they are feeling the pain and De Blasio, Obama, Sanders, Hillary, Cuomo, etc; needs to do a better job of reaching out to them. Look at the red on Staten Island, look at the red in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, look at the red on Forest Hills, look at the red on Howard Beach, Breezy Point. I know these areas in and out. I am a Northerner. Huckabee can win those areas, and it may not help him win, but Democrats need to reach out to them more. I am an independent, and they need reassurance, Frank.
Are your friends mad that the furriners took over Flushing? I’m really quite pissed at them for giving my home borough a reputation somewhat below Alabama. You can find bigots everywhere, but most people in Queens are not like this scum.
They have a different culture? We don’t like that in America. Why can’t they assimilate? Why should we have to adapt to them? I bet they don’t even speak real English. We should probably put them on a watch list or something. And no, I don’t want to visit there. To go along with their other grievances, I imagine they don’t have a high opinion of women, either.
I know, Queens is a beautiful and blessed borough, but they have a lot of old school folks that have grievances; they’re taking it out on Mayor Bill de Blasio, and may do it to Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders in November 2016.

Well of course they don’t like de Blasio. His wife is black and he has mixed-race children.
Even worse, de Blasio is concerned about the homeless people in New York (because, you know, he’s only the mayor of police-loving, jackboot-saluting, working class whites.)
Right. Democrats should totally abandon any suggestion that maybe helping people is an ideal pursuit for public servants and instead concentrate on implementing Rudy Giuliani’s ideas. Because everyone just admires Rudy so much. Why, if a few more Democrats got on board, he might even have enough support that he could run for president some day!

They want the people to respect the police’s orders. I’m undecided on this issue. Do you respect the police, yes or no?
Does Huckabee? If he had any respect for America why does he want to set up a religious theocracy? Why would you support that? Why do you keep nattering on about how a tiny minority of anti-American bigots want to destroy the country? Do you respect that? Why do you think you can get decent people to support bigots? If you had any respect for America shouldn’t you be condemning them as violently as we are? What’s your real agenda?
Just asking questions, same as you.
But, as you mentioned earlier, Lhota lost in a landslide. What makes you think Huckabee wouldn’t?
Generally speaking, but we can’t ignore the bad ones, or the fact that blacks are more likely than whites to get hassled by them or worse for the same behavior.
I don’t want a religious theocracy. I just want everyone to be respected. I am against bigotry. Plain and simple. I am against hurt.
The worst travel robot ever
Forget the landmarks, museums and cultural attractions of Manhattan. Screw the good stuff like the Museum of the Moving Image in the civilized, easily accessible parts of Queens. Instead, hop on a subway for about 40 minutes then transfer for a God only knows how long bus ride to Glendale, Maspeth, or Middle Village.
Let’s see what trip advisor can scrape up for “Things to do in Middle Village”

Wow, three whole things- and two of them appear to be bars. The third seems to involve bumper cars. Way to expand ones cultural horizons.
But it is an absolute tourist haven compared to Glendale which boasts 2 things … A bar and a shopping center.

Hum, Shops at Atlis Park doesn’t sound so bad… Maybe I can pick up some local crafts to gourmet foodstuffs…well, apparently not unless they sell that stuff at TJ Maxx or Footlocker …and one gloating review is titled " never knew it was there".
Still, this excursion this may provide some much needed cultural diversity to young urban progressive who have a shameful lack of exposure to endless strip malls surrounded by mid century tract housing.
Now I had high hopes for Maspeth as even though I am a 30 year resident of Queens I had never heard of Middle Village or Glendale. But once every decade or so I have to get in my car and drive endlessly around Maspeth looking for the customer entrance to the ginormous UPS terminal - I seem to recall you have to dodge a lot of cemeteries which makes navigating difficult.
But let’s see what Trip Advisor has for things to do in Maspeth.
Wow, there’s a bar

And that’s it
And if Archie Bunker were real and alive today he’d be about 105 and the old guy living in that house would be elderly Meathead so I don’t buy the background of your alleged “friends”… Although maybe your “friends” liked Joe Lhota’s out of left field pro-marijuana stance. It seems like they may enjoy hitting the bong before you post.
Yeah, I guess that would be possible . . . It’s easy for us ignorant non-Gothamite barbarians to forget just how big is NYC. I worked this out once – Ancient Rome, within the Aurelian Walls, was 5.3 square miles; Manhattan is 33.77 square miles; Manhattan could hold 6.3 Romes. And that’s the smallest of the Five Boroughs.
Yes, I’m always telling relatives that Queens is a REALLY big place-- I once pulled out a paper map and counted the named neighborhoods in Queens and there were something like 60 of them - which seems to be borne out by this list even though they break some of them down more than I’m used to seeing
Queens is a really big place, about 175 square miles with a population close to a quarter million people -about half whom are foreign born
My friends are real. One lives in Glendale, Queens, and another lives in mid-Staten Island. They’re hardworking people, Ann. They believe in America and New York’s greatness. They are worried about the future of this country. They have a lot of grievances. **And both parties better address it-before it is too late. **
Missing words. Queens population is just over two and a quarter million.
No, the parties had better not address their grievances, because whatever they say their grievances are, those are almost certainly the wrong grievances; see post #24.
You may be right. However, the demographics that is changing in Queens is scaring them, and it’s going to be like that for a long time.
