Can my camera be saved? (It got wet)

I brought my DSLR camera with me to Ireland last week. As I guess is kind of typical of weather in the British Isles, I got caught in a rain shower, and as a result the camera got wet. Now the camera will not turn on. Literally nothing happens when I turn the switch to “on”. I was hoping it would come back to life after it dried out – I had that happen with a different camera, but it has been almost a week so I figure if that was going to happen it would have by now. I tried charging the battery just to be certain it was fully charged, and that made no difference. So, is there anything else I can try, or is it completely dead? Would it be worth trying a new battery, in case it was actually the battery that got destroyed by the water and not the camera itself? Right now I just have the one battery for it, so I would have to purchase another one if I were to try that.

Unfortunately, if your camera is fully dry turning it on i about the worst thing you can do to it. That can fry the circuitry when a wet device is turned on.

Yeah, sounds like all the smoke got out.

Sorry, I should have written

if your camera ISN’T fully dry, turning it on is about the worst thing you can do to it.
