What can I do with a water damaged DSC-T1 Sony digital camera?

My wife dropped the camera into the washing machine and immediately fished it out. But it has not shown any signs of coming back to life since. Do I have to just throw it out? Hell, it was a $500 camera four years ago. Any ideas on what I could do with it, how I could make any use of it, or allow anyone else to? Is there any type of market for this on e-bay? Thanks, Dopers. xo, C.

Based on some of my experiences on ebay, just advertise it as “new! in box!”

How long did you let it dry?

If this every happens, DO NOT TURN THE CAMERA ON until it is completely dry. As in, several days. Your best bet would be to remove the batteries, memory stick, open all the little doors, and let it air dry or place it in a bag with those silica gel packs. Do this for several days before attempting to turn it on.

If you turn it one when wet, bad and irreversible things happen. The camera is probably toast, and can’t be repaired at any realistic cost. You might be able to sell it for a few bucks as a parts camera on eBay.

Four year old cameras are so far behind the current technology that you did yourself a favor. You can get a much better camera for much less money today.

Yes, well, *of course * I tried to turn it on before it was completely dry. At that time, I didn’t yet know the whole story of its demise. But it did seem funny that the battery seemed damp when I checked it. I chalked it up to having been on an airplane and having condensation form when we got back to humid ole Chicago.

And, as guilt would have it, Mrs. CC. felt compelled to replace it with their most recent version, and it’s wonderful. And it cost less than the original. Happy Father’s Day, indeed. I’ll see if someone on Craig’s List wants it for any reason. Thanks.
