Can Paso Fino horses gallop if they need to?

Odd question. The wikiseems to indicate that this stepping gait is wired in as their only mode of walking. If this is true how would they escape from predators?

Maybe you can ask Renee.

I can’t speak specifically to the paso fino, but I have a half-Peruvian paso (the other half is also a gaited breed). He has a walk, trot, funky rolling gait (“stepping”), lope/canter, and gallop.

That stepping gait is faster than our Arab’s lope.

OP, from your own cite:

It also mentions the horses breaking gait in competition as a disqualifier. They may have a natural pattern of stepping that looks different from other horses, that doesn’t mean they can’t run. Also the pics Renee posted of her new guy show him running (canter? gallop?) in her paddock.
