TLC and TDC are littered with woo-woo, but The Science Channel proper, for now at least, is refreshingly free of bullshit. (Yes, it’s one of a mere handful of entries in my TiVo Faves, why do you ask?)

I’ve also noticed that the National Geographic Channel is apparently free of the woo-woo stuff.

I advocate a more dangerous route to popularize science.

Blow stuff up. Destroy stuff. Big stuff, and show how science lets you get creative about how you can destroy things without going to jail.

Make science appeal to bad boys and sluts.

We already tried that with nuclear energy, and it didn’t work. People have an association between nuclear bombs and nuclear power, even though it’s bullshit, because they don’t understand. We could have nuclear power now in every major city and quit sucking on that oil spigot, but people are too afraid of nuclear accidents even though the safety record is far better than other kinds of power.
