There has been some back and forth with the AG as to whether the part of the church that is just a church is included as part of the school. I’d error on the side on caution. Carrying in a school is a felony.
Interesting. Everywhere I’ve voted in Milwaukee county has been a school, courthouse, library, or building in a park. I imagine in other communities churches are used.
I recall a joke – dating form the early 20th Century, pre-Prohibition – that the quickest way to empty the Chicago City Council chamber was to rush into a meeting and shout, “Your saloon is on fire!”
Schools and churches are often used as polling places in Ohio. Our local schools now close on Election Day, so that members of the public are not coming in to vote with little or no security when classes would otherwise be underway.

In my town in Massachusetts, 6 of the 10 polling places are in schools, 3 are in club buildings (American Legion, K of C, ItAm), and 1 is in a nursing home. Availability of parking has something to do with it.
It’s wherever they can find room. My polling places in California have included schools, private homes, community centers, etc. Once it was in a Buddhist church.
