Looking for a sci-fi short story. Think it was from 365tomorrows.com but I can’t find it.
Its about a cyborg or perhaps a guy in a mechanical power suit waging war on the front line. His suit is powering down due to a malfunction. He becomes desperate and enters the enemy area (perhaps an old town). He’s looking for a room. He’s getting desperate as various functions begin to go off line. He demolishes anything and everything in sight. He finally finds the room and then must find the key to open the room. Time is of the essence as he begins to succumb to the power suit powering down and trapping him to a slow agonizing death. At the very last second he finally finds the key and must evacuate the person already occupying the room by blowing him to kingdom come. He manages to just barely open the suit and sit on the toilet and taking a much needed dump, thus saving him from certain death.
Can anybody find this short story?
<moderation>This thread does have a factual answer, however, it will probably do better in Cafe Society, so that’s where it’s new address is.</moderation>
As a SF reader, I can’t say that I’m familiar with this story.
Sounds vaguely like something from “Again, Dangerous Visions,” but nothing specific.
I thought of Life Hutch by Harlan Ellison. It’s not what you described unless your memory is really corrupted, though.
No sorry not the one I remember.
