I’ve been recommended the Walking Dead both as a show and as a video game, and I now see that the video game is on sale on Steam. I realized now that I have no idea if the show and the video game cover the same material. And if not, which one is first chronologically (i.e. which one should I start with)?
I could look this all up somewhere, but I am so far completely unspoiled on the actual plot, and would like to remain so. All I know is that it’s a well-written post-apocalyptic zombie fiction, and that’s good enough for me
They’re not the same material. The video game adheres more closely to the comics whereas the television series is its own thing entirely, and even so the video game has its own unique set of characters and events.
I really have to ask why you think this. I’m not one to tell people they’re wrong, but I do want to understand your reasons for this, since it barely hits the threshold of “game” for me. More like “mildly interactive visual novel.”
That’s not to say I don’t like it, I do, but I’d hesitate to recommend it to most self-described gamers, even adventure game fans. Admittedly I only played Episode 1 (going to start the rest now-ish), it may get more gamey in the later episodes.
ETA: Or maybe mention it in my thread (it should still be on the front page of The Game Room, the title is Telltale’s The Walking Dead), since the OP wants to be unspoiled if your explanation will involve spoilers.
