I’ve recently started watching Dancing With The Stars, mainly because I enjoy reading the snarking about it (and American Idol) on the televisionwithoutpity.com messageboard. What can I say? I get bored at work.
Anyway, when Heather Mills was announced as a contestant there was almost universal hatred in the responses there about her. Some people predicted she’d be booed during the first episode, others predicted she’d definitely be out first (for the record, she got a standing ovation the first episode, and she’s set for at least a few more weeks on the show I bet).
I think I had heard her name before all this, but I’ve never heard why she’s loathed by so many people. Her wikipedia article offers some clue, but I thought I’d post here and see if I can hear it straight from someone who hates her themselves. So what’s the deal?
She got married Paul McCartney shortly after his favoritest wife ever, Linder, died. They were all rainbows and puppies blissfully in love until one day she decided Sir Paul beat her and abused her and she would like a divorce (and half his money, please).
The world was not going to buy into her story that The Cutest Beatle was a very bad man and she was marked as a money-grubbing media whore who should be ashamed of herself for being so dreadful to Our Paul.
I do believe she was making, or even is making, a documentary about her divorce. Tsk!
I don’t know much about Heather Mills, and never had a strong opinion of her. I figured that if Paul liked her, he was entitled to get married again. And at some point, if she just wsn’t happy with him, I could have forgiven her for bailing out, and even saying some ugly things about Paul (for all I know, some of her criticisms may be valid).
I didn’t start to hate her until she started making astronomical monetary demands. I mean, it’s not as if SHE had anything to do with Paul’s success.
If John Lennon’s ex Cynthia had hit John up for a ton of money, I might have been sympathetic- she was with him through the lean years, when he was a struggling musician, after all.
But Heather now seems to have been a gravy trainer from the start.
She’s into cleaning up minefields, and Sir Paul apparently is still committed to that. So, maybe she’s a goldigger. But the problem with hating Heather is that she’s unquestionably doing more good in the world than I am.
There is, of course, the possibility that Sir Paul really is a bastard behind closed doors. I have a hard time believing that, though. I know that after 40-odd years he’s very savvy about his public image, but you’d kind of think something along these lines would have surfaced long before.
