Friend of mine has a cellphone that’s an additional line/phone off her ex’s Sprint cellphone account. She said that he can view usage (i.e. minutes used each month) but not the actual list of calls made/received.
She’s only doing it this way because its cheaper and she can’t afford her own line, but her ex is a bit of a selfish, jealous, jerk so I told her I look into whether or not he could in fact see who she calls on his bill or online. I figured asking here would be easiest as I don’t have Sprint.
Just to be clear, her ex gave her the additional line phone, she’s not scamming it behind his back.
Since he’s ultimately responsible for paying the bill and it is within his rights to ask Sprint for a detail of the calls that he is paying for it stands to reason that he is able to obtain that information by asking for it, even if it isn’t provided as part of the regular monthly statement.
He could also cancel the primary phone, making the second line the primary number of the account by default, and start receiving regular, primary-phone billing statements for it. I don’t think she would ever know the difference.
As the account holder he could authorize the phone for location based services, GPS tracking of the phone to [del]stalk his ex-girlfriend[/del] find a nearby internet cafe. He might even be able to remotely activate the camera or something like that if he had previous access to the phone to install applications on it.
If he is the stalker-ish type I would consider the phone to be a sure way for him to be able to keep tabs on her to some extent or other.
Verizon here, I just checked and all 3 phones on our account appear on the main billing, and it lists all the calls made on each phone and tracks how many minutes each phone used of the allotment.
I have Sprint with four lines on my account. If he is the primary account holder he most definitely has the ability and the right to view all calls made on all lines.
Those are facts. No opinion intended.
The only way to avoid his involvement is to get your own phone.
You KNOW he is looking at every call you make and receive.
You can view all the incoming/outgoing calls for every individual line when you log in to sprint.com; I do it all the time. Just go to “My Account”, and you’ll see a list of all the phones on the plan. Next to each will be a link that says, “See All Usage”.
When we cut corners by becoming the third line on our son’s Sprint account, I expected that. I am really not concerned, but yeah an ex would be different.
Thanks to all, that’s what I thought. Although her ex (husband for some ~20 years actually!) is completely NOT tech savvy at all, she’s not exactly a geek either. And she’s also a very trusting and naive (to a fault) person. I’ll let her know next time I see her.
