Anybody heard of this character named Larry Craig? He’s been putting up a series of videos on youtube (linkable at above linked blogspot site) claiming that he gave Barack Obama a blowjob and smoked crack with him in a limo in 1999. His story is completely unsubstantiated and laughable. The dude looks like Larry the Cable Guy and appears to have mental problems but that hasn’t stopped the videos from turning up on some right wing blogs with predictable outraged demands to know why the “MSM” (including, in this case, even mainstream right wing radio) has been “covering it up.”
Now Larry Sinclair has filed a slander suit against Barack Obama and the Democratic Party for unfairly “smearing” him. Sinclair is acting as his own attorney.
Even though this dude is clearly as full of shit as a constipated whale, could this thing still work to Swiftboat Obama’s momentum? We’ve seen in the past that accusations are all that matter and that proof and facts mean nothing when it comes to political character assassination. I expect this will quickly make its way into some vicious little spam campaigns and that we’ll probably hear the radio assholes bringing it up in the GE if Obama gets that far.
Maybe I’m being too pessimistic, but I fear that Barack will now be morphed into a crack-smoking faggot, regardless of the facts.
Nayy, nothing is going to stop Obama, it’s all BS. Also, Obama is waaaay too smart to run for any office had he actually done any of that. He’d know it would have gotten out. It’s BS and everyone with 1/4 a brain will know it.
Unless this guy has some verifiable connection to Obama, I can’t see this doing anything to his campaign. And even if there is a connection, it’s not going anywhere unless maybe 60 Minutes decides to do a piece on it or something. I’d say the best thing for Obama to do is to ignore it. Some woman no doubt will be claiming to be Hillary’s lesbian lover at some point.
Just the other day in the Pit, we had somebody wondering if the Che flag in some Texas office was going to be Obama’s “death scream.” The next day, Obama blew out Clinton in Virginia, Maryland and DC and apparently sent her into a campaign panic.
I guess I’m saying people get nervous and then worry too much about little stuff. The guy is probably nuts or making it up, and established media have to think about credibility and liability issues that blogs don’t.
Nah, too obvious. If 2004 is any indication, the point of swiftboating is to turn the candidate’s greatest perceived strength against him. I’m not sure what that is in Obama’s case, but for example, he’s an accomplished author and law professor – maybe a race-tinged plagiarism scandal? (“He’s been recycling talking points from old Black Panther speeches!”) Anyway, something that undercuts whatever his chief selling points are supposed to be.
And it won’t be a nutjob – it’ll be former colleagues or something. It isn’t too hard to round up a few conservative academics at Harvard or Chicago, is it? (Former fellow law students at the Harvard Law Review?)
ETA: come to think of it, “community organizing on the South Side of Chicago” is probably a very ripe topic for hookers-and-blow rumors. So you may be right after all.
Everything. The whole story sounds ludicrous. Even if you think it sounds plausible that Barack Obama smoked crack and got his dick sucked by a hobo in the back of a limo, the guy has offered no substantiation for any part of his story. He mentions drinking with Obama at an upscale Chicago nightclub but doesn’t name it. Doesn’t name any of the many other witnesses who should have seen him with Obama, is ambiguous about the date (giving a range of several days for when it could have happened), reads off cue cards the whole time and just generally isn’t believable.
Anybody can post any accusation against anybody on youtube and they may not all be immediately, empirically falsifiable, but come on. Obvious bullshit is obvious bullshit.
Unless it gets traction (and I hadn’t even heard of this until the OP brought it up) it’s not going to do anything to Obama. The only way it would get traction is if this guy has something resembling proof (like pictures of him and Obama together or something like that).
Sounds like the guy is a nut case to me. Assuming that is so there is even less chance of this getting traction with anyone but the faithful…
I do think it plausible. I don’t personally know the man and tend to think that people are capable of anything. From your summary of the mans story, it does sound unlikely that he is being truthful though.
I don’t think its implausible that Obama could be gay, or that he’s smoked crack before, but this particular guy doesn’t seem credible, given his lack of specifics. Surely at least some of the few facts could be checked out- his limo rental receipt, or Obama being out of the state that day, etc.
I don’t think past drug use would hurt him, as it didn’t for Dubya, unless the stigma of crack is still worse than that of coke. A credible homosexual tryst rumor though might hurt, but most people who hate gays aren’t voting for him anyway.
Bush never admitted to cocaine use, and I don’t think you need to “hate gays” to not want a president who gets blowjobs from random strangers in the back of limos. Not that I think this guy is credible, but I’m just responding to the implications in your post.
