Well, xt, I hadn’t said it publicly mostly because I’m not that involved with posting as of late – barely have time to read a thread here or there – but I’ve also found myself agreeing with a few of your comments (and some of Lib’s BTW) vis-a-vis the need for a change of course for your nation (and half mine for many a reason) and how Obama might just be the first step in that much needed direction.
Point being, if there’s no hope, what’s left?
Sure as hell this Jerry Springer shit doesn’t help…
I think we have to resign ourselves to this type of stuff being more and more common in the YouTube world we live in. Nothing you can really do about it, other than not giving it more attention than it deserves. Unfortunately, I think we’ve already done that…
I think he is. I’m actually, well, kind of excited about the possibility of an Obama presidency at this point. Certainly more than I have been about a potential presidency in over a decade.
I certainly don’t want to see something dumb like this get any traction…and I don’t think it IS going to get any traction.
Although…
This is actually a good point…and one I hadn’t considered myself (probably because I’m working and hadn’t really thought about it). I suppose that if the Republicans DO think there is any traction here they wouldn’t be tipping their hand at this point, but waiting until the waters clear and Obama is the Democrats choice.
So, 1999: Barack Obama is a good looking ambitious up-n-comer in state politics and the author of a well received commercially successful book, and also a closeted homosexual and closeted crack smoker. Oddly, nobody else remembers him ever having smoked crack or pole before this time.
Deciding to get his freak on, he doesn’t go to Milwaukee (less than 2 hours away) or Indianapolis (3 hours) which both have gay bars and where he’s not likely to be recognized, but chooses to trick in his own home city in, again, an upscale nightclub in the the one city in America where a huge number of people are likely to recognize him. To pick up a trick he doesn’t go to some out of the way waterfront leather bar, but to (by Sinclair’s own “admission”) an upscale nightclub, the sort of place where people who would be most likely to recognize the golden boy legislator/former Harvard Law Review editor/author, and know he was married and know he was ambitious, and there leave with a gay guy.
All of his other tricks past and present decide to keep quiet out of some form of currency, or perhaps that limo was the first time he ever had sex with a guy or crack and he wanted it to be special so he chose an unattractive stranger.
1- in the secret employ of a Republican opponent
2- in the secret employ of a Democratic opponent
3- a lone nutjob who gets off on being the center of so much attention?
I’m going with 3. I don’t think McCain, Clinton, or pretty much anybody else in the race is stupid enough to risk having an obviously not stable or bright guy (who nobody would believe to be Obama’s type even if he were on the DL) totally pearl necklace them when this thing is proven to be a hoax.
A legal question: if Sinclair is proven to be a lying sack of shit, would YouTube have any legal liability for having hosted him?
Or, what if the guy claims to be able to describe Obama’s cock in detail? And if he’s clearly wrong, would Obama take any steps to prove the description was incorrect?
I think the Republicans would rather run against Hillary than Obama to be honest. I think they are starting to realize that Obama may be unbeatable…unless the Democrats beat him themselves. Hillary on the other hand is so divisive a candidate that people either lover her or hate her…there isn’t a lot of middle ground there I don’t think.
So…assuming the Republicans actually think there is anything to this story they may hold it back in case the Super-delegates don’t sink Obama and they actually have to face him in November.
Personally unless things seriously change (and unless the Democrats fuck Obama themselves at the convention) I don’t see how McCain has a chance in hell of beating him in November. The part is to split over McCain and his lack of (social) conservative fervor…while the Dems AND a lot of independents are going to line up behind Obama if he gets the nod. I think the Dems will be fully unified a candidate for the first time in a LONG time…and that a lot of the center is going to line up with them.
Pure anecdote but this is the first year my middle son will be able to vote…and all he talks about from school is how the teachers are gun ho for Obama. He can’t wait to vote. He asks me what I think and I tell him to do what I do…to actually take a good look at the candidates. To weigh and measure their various positions. But to also listen to what they say. And then to make an informed choice. Whoever he votes for I couldn’t be more proud of him…he is doing all of that stuff. He is excited to for the chance to use his franchise for the first time…excited to be a citizen and do his part.
If there was any truth to this story I think it’d be beyond anyone’s political interests/power to 1-hold back from the journous that scooped it. It’s simply too big a money-maker for the MSM to play a waiting game on, and 2-as pointed above by xt (congrats on your middle son becoming of age BTW. So is my only one. In May he becomes a full-fledged Obamite Cultist) it’s no secret that the Right would much rather run vs Divisive Hill as it’s a well-known fact that BO has that segment of the population that always decides the elections – the independents – pretty much in his pocket. So no better time than right now.
As – a welcomed one I would think – an aside, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more accomplished orator in my lifetime than Barack and to those that say he’s “all hat and no cattle” (no matter how clever their leader thought she was being at the time with the twofer) all I can respond with is that many might be able to manipulate and clearly have but those that can truly inspire are few and far between. In that sense, I think we might be witnessing greatness in the making.
I’m not sure if you are referring to Hillary’s recent speech in which she mentioned the “all hat and no cattle” thing, but she was clearly talking about Bush, not Obama. Still, I’m so sick and tired of hearing her pitch about action, not speeches. And about how she keeps praising Obama for being a good orator (a back handed way of saying the same thing).
I’m not voting for that Lincoln fellow. He’s only been a senator for one term, and just because he’s a brilliant orator and a thoughtful, intelligent writer with class and integrity doesn’t mean he’ll make a good president.
SDMB is populated by a bunch of political wonks. No offense intended…but there it is.
(there are some folks who probably fall into the ‘nut job minority group’ category as well…and lots of fringe libertarian/socialist/space alien types as well)
There are people out there, people on this very board, who believe shit like this has to be looked into no matter how ridiculous it is on its face. The failure of the MSM to do so may only encourage them–all the moreso if Rush or someone picks up on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if this became part of the talking points along with Obama’s lack of patriotism and muslim religion. Perhaps not this particular story, but the idea of really shady drug use. I think we know the drug stuff will expand far beyond whatever he wrote about–by the time of the general he will be a former crack-using acid-tripping drug dealer.
Well I watched the video, and I see that Sinclair is allegedly a little pissed with Obama for lying about his cocaine use. Nothing like watching a rising star getting away with an outright lie and you’re the only one in on the secret.
Or, he may be pissed with a failed blackmail attempt.
I don’t think we can assume anything yea or nay, or expect that Obama should respond, but I hope that CNN offers to arrange a polygraph test for Sinclair to settle this issue.
