So, popping mine open, 7 years after this thread, it looks like theres a large capacitor that’s charged to power tha audio board, that’s propably begining to fail on yours. This ornament is glued together, from the back where the gray meets white for the shell, with a small enough flat head you should be able to pry it apart with minimal damage.
