Can Tiger get it back?

He was hitting a bunch of 3W and iron tee shots. He only hit 2 drivers, including one to reach the short par 4.

I like the theory that he was purposely tanking in order to reduce his value and therefore reduce the amount of the divorce settlement. Now he’s free to turn it on again.

Of course he wasn’t hitting the driver. But he was able to lead the tourney without it. His driving average would be poor on the senior or LPGA tours. I wonder if it was the course or was he afraid to use it. He was 103rd in average, so a lot were hitting the driver.

Tiger had kind of a crappy day and is 4 back from the lead. Meanwhile, Lefty didn’t make the cut. Tiger will stay #1.

Not only will I tell you it did look like a bunker, but a pro golfer and his caddy made the same decision. Don’t sit a few thousand miles away and say it was a bad decision.

Ouch, Tiger is + 4 today ,even par for the tourney. He spent his first round 65.

And he is also endanger of missing the tournament next week. He probably needs a finish better than 50th and he is T44 right now.

TW had one good round at the US Open, and one good Round at the British Open and one good this week.

Minus 8 for his first 27 holes. +7 since then.

He birdied 17 and 18 today. That finish gives him hope for next weeks cut. He can not blow up again though.

The question is still valid. Tiger had 2 good rounds and 2 not so good. He was tied for the lead after day one. But something seems different. He does not cut anybodies heart out when they think they have him. He used to make outrageous chips or great putts when he looked like he was in trouble. How many times did you think that only Tiger could make that shot under that kind of pressure? That is what is missing. He lost the killer instinct that comes from arrogance and attitude. The mystique is gone now. Can he get that back?

Why didn’t the Deutsche Bank tournament start today? Don’t they usually start on Thursdays?

It is because of the Labor Day holiday on Monday.

The website for the Deutsche Bank Championship states:

“When: Tuesday, August 31 - Monday, September 6, 2010 (Labor Day weekend, the PGA TOUR’s only scheduled Monday finish)”

However, they are also predicting some interesting weather on Friday due to Hurricane Earl.

Another poor round for Tiger in Boston.

A one over par 72, when nearly most players in the field was taking it low.

As he finished his round, he was T88 (only 99 players are playing) and endanger of:

a. missing the cut,
b. missing next weeks tournament,
c. not impressing Captain Corey Pavin who is making Ryder Cup Captain’s picks tomorrow.

he will have to make a move tomorrow morning, and conditions could be tough after the hurricane passes through.

I read a speculation that he would need to finish at around 44th to get to play in the next tournament and that he’d need to finish at least in the Top 4 in one of the next two weeks to make the final one.

44th will definitely get him to next week in Chicago. The cutoff, right now, is 814 points, and finishing 55th (80 pts) will be enough to get him to 814 points. 44th gets him to 870 points.

He somehow needs at least 800 points in the next two to get to the Tour Championship. If can get through this week, 4th place next week will get him an extra 750 pts.

Two 9th place finishes equal 800 pts. So if he can work himself into the top 10, he will have a reasonable chance to make to the Tour championship.

But first things first, he has to make the cut tomorrow. Assuming the hurricane passes tonight, and the residual winds are not too high tomorrow, he may need to shoot as low as 66 to make the cut. Low 70 and ties is the cut line, and after round 1 there is a 13 way tie for 61st at 2 under par.

Theoretically, this should be the easiest cut of the year to make. Only 99 players in the field, and top 70 and ties make the cut.

This is such a different reality. We are discussing what Tiger needs to do to keep from losing his Ryder Cup and No. 1 Position. It used to be all he had to do was show up. Everything has changed.

Yes, its a new world for TW when he is struggling to make cuts and finishing in the top 50 of a golf tournament.

He played his first nine holes very well this morning. 4 under. He is now 3 under for the tournament. he current position is T51, but I doubt it will hold up to make the cut today. Many players are taking it low again today, and I suspect the cut number will go to -4 or possibly -5. Tiger was one of the earlier starters today. As the players play more holes, they will tend to catch up to his score.

If he plays the back nine 1 under, that should be enough, 2 under to be really safe.

So Tiger comes back with a 65. He will go int tomorrow 9 or 10 back. He made the cut but I don’t think he will be satisfied with that. He is costing his caddy a lot of money.

Here we go again. If Phil finishes in the top 4 while Tiger is outside the top ten, we will have a new number one.

The winds picked up in the afternoon, so the scores went higher.

The Fedex hurdle to the top 70 is sitting at 842 points. Tiger needs a solo top 50 finish to accumulate 842 points. Should be no problem for Tiger, but who knows. If he plays Sun/Mon like he did today, he is OK. If he plays like he did on Friday, he could be going home, where ever home is these days.

Wow. Opey chips in to save par on 18. Nice!

Phil is in there, but I think Day has the mo.

Could be a new number one tomorrow. If Phil makes 4th or better( he is 6th) and Tiger is outside top 10, he could be on top. There is something for Tiger to play for. If he shoots over 72 he could be eliminated. Tiger has a lot to think about.
