Maybe at least put a rough time limit / number of posts in them till they get closed and version 2.0 or whatever can be started?
If it gets to the point where, say, 25% of the threads on the 1st page are omnibus threads, then we probably need to do something. But I don’t think we’re close to being there yet.
Having said that, it would be nice if folks were a bit more judicious about this. An omnibus Trump thread? Really? Does he need more attention than he’s getting?

As for suggestions, if I may offer one from another board (International Skeptics) that I frequent, perhaps when a thread reaches a certain point, close it and open another with the same name, but with “Part 2” (or even 3 or 4) on it.
That allows the mega-sized thread to fall down the board, while allowing the ‘usual suspects’ to continue their argument/debate/pier six brawl.
Don’t know how well it would work here, just a suggestion.

Okay, now that that one is complete, we need to add an Omnibus Omnibus thread where ALL the Omnibus threads go. If we work at this long enough, we can get this board down to one forum with one thread and one mod. Actually we’d probably need 2 forums, the second being a Sour Grapes forum for bitching about that mod’s moderation of the Omnibus Omnibus Forum.
More generally, it’s obvious that what this place needs is more rules.

Each viewpoint should have its own thread – make it a lot easier for those who only want to read things with which they agree.
There should be one thread for the entire board, per day.
Funny, I was trying to work up the energy for an Omnibus Omnibus Pit Thread, but decided to eat some ice cream and take a nap instead.
Not sure if this would help but there is an option in your personal settings to view threads by a “reply tree”, rather than linearly:
User CP/Your Control Panel/Settings and Options/Edit Options/Thread Display Options/Thread Display Mode/Linear Oldest, Linear Newest, Threaded, Hybrid
Eh. The Donald will be Pitted no matter what; at this point in his “Presidential” “nomination” “candidacy” it’s as inevitable as the tides. At least this keeps it all in one thread, so his vanity searching will only get one hit.
I would like to assume that was done on purpose. 
Or, rather than put the whole board into just one thread, we could have Omnibus Threads all the way down.
It will be an instabannable offense to post in the Sour Grapes forum in any color other than purple.
More to the point, The Donald Pit thread should serve to get the Donald posts out of SRIOTD, where his prodigious volume of idiotically pittable pronouncements have been cluttering things up with items so profoundly stupid (The Donald’s stupidity, not the posts themselves or the posters) that they aren’t even worthy of being in the SRIOTD thread.
There are 6 active threads about Trump on this MB, 2 of them in The Pit.
How about a Windows 10 omnibus? There are 6 or more threads going right now. I think it’s about to get worse.
Put another way - I disagree with the OP. I think there’s a place for omnibus threads.
That’s my thread, and I did it to reduce the attention her gets (here, that is.) I thought we might get swamped by threads about every outrageously stupid offensive things he says. Isn’t one Trump thread better than 1 new thread about him every couple of days, or hours?
