I didn’t say that I liked Opal, as I didn’t. I didn’t dislike her either; I had no feelings about her that I can recall, as we never interacted that I can recall. I asked why you cared and then why Shakes cared because the complaint seems pointless. No one is requiring you or Shakes to allude to her in your posts, and I can’t see how you’re harmed by others doing so.

There are plenty of other instances on this board of little Opal memorials that have popped up, all using the same basic construct.
I think there’s a little recreational grieving going on. Not that there isn’t some genuine sadness, but that whole Hi Opal meme was silly in the first place.

It’s just annoying. When some one starts a thread tittled “Opal and data mining” (or some shit) I know I can avoid that thread if it annoys me so. It’s when people start threads that have nothing to do with Opal and they throw those bombs in there, it’s grating. Just like when Snowboarder Bo, likes to drop his “Lets go down to the quarry” line.
I liked Opal just fine. [Heck, I like Bo too] I’m just not thrilled about the constant reminder she’s dead.

I know Opal passed away, but can anyone tell me what happened exactly? I know there are a few threads, but everyone seems to dance around it, and even though I can guess, I really don’t know and would hate to be wrong.
I tried to get to her website, but it wouldn’t load, probably a sign of it being bombarded by everything and everybody. Asking a question like this may seem insensitive, but people seem to know every detail of her life, and if she made it public record, I don’t see why I can’t ask the question.
If someone doesn’t want to tell me out here, fine. Send me a PM, or post a link to send me somewhere where I can read about it.
She was here for a long time, and even though i didn’t interact with her much, I did know of her and her fathoms board.

Somehow I missed the crazy shit re: Wally. Well, not really surprising since I have gone years without logging on to the SDMB at times. I do remember when he supposedly died quite clearly though.
