Well, sometimes they are useful. For example, the ‘90 year old grandmother shot down by the police’ thread was a fascinating example of the corruption of a police department, and I’m very interesting in following it through.
I feel strongly no thread type should be banned, but specific users should perhaps be admonished if they are posting a large amount of any one kind of undesirable Op. Similar to the poster-specific ‘do not post any more bondage threads’ we had once.

I’m on the side of the vaguely apathetic types. I don’t like the threads, and I try to skip them rather than read them, but if other people want to get all enraged about stuff they see on the news, I guess I don’t care.

RO threads bore me to tears, honestly, but don’t ban 'em. Hell, 9/10ths of this board’s content is recreational in nature.
Well, the difference I see with that one is that the OP had a personal connection to the incident. Most of the RO threads do not.
I don’t think RO threads should be banned, but they do need to be titled beyond, “OMG im so mad WHY CRUEL WORLD WHY!!!” so I can steer clear of them.
My opinion exactly. There are a lot of threads on this board I am not interested in. I just don’t read them. I see no reason to ban them. Some of the RO threads seem to get a lot of views and a lot of posts, so someone must be interested.
When they came for the naughty words in thread titles,
I remained silent;
I did not start threads with naughty words in the titles.
When they came for recreational outragers,
I did not speak out;
I was not a recreational outrager.
When they came for kitty pic posters,
there was no one left to speak out.
I think it depends on the tone. Various news stories can make for interesting discussions, if they’re not just another “OH NOES, LOOK AT THIS HORRIBLE THING!!!”
The same can be said about any type of thread regularly posted here. We could also ban Political, religious, and gay lesbian threads. Nobody would miss them, and if you did, you’re fucked up in the head, right? :rolleyes:

I agree. Though if the thing goes on for pages, I’ll eventually check it out to see what all the fighting (it’s always fighting) is about.
Better, it should be a rule that they are ALL be title “OMG im so mad WHY CRUEL WORLD WHY!!!” -part 1,2,3 etc. That way it will be even easier to avoid them. Mods, please implement at your leisure.
