Can we please ban "recreational outrage" posts?

(un-sized by me)

When reading this post, do not think of the word “ambidextrous” :slight_smile:

[QUOTE=wring]
bullfucking shit. If the fucker had entitled the thread so that it was clear that it was another RO thread, I’d not have bothered opening it. The mouseover doesn’t IME, always accomplish the same thing, besides, the OP is responsible for the thread title as well as the OP itself.

If they’ve wasted my time because of their lame ass thread title didn’t let me know already it was “another” one of those threads, they deserve all the scorn I can post.

Scorn and pit all you want; that was my point. Just don’t ask the Mods to pass rules about it. If enough people express a negative opinion about non-descriptive thread titles, it is very possible that the situation will gradually correct itself.

On the other hand, maybe the fucker should be shot for having the nerve to waste five seconds of your extremely valuable time! :dubious:

which is what I’ve been arguing. I’ve not sided with “ban them”, I’ve repeatedly implored that thread titles should be descriptive, and yes, the mods should enforce that. (hell, it’s even a rule in GD, and they’ve managed to limp along.

yes, my time is valuable, thank you. Certainly more valuable to me than theirs is. But I wouldn’t call for shooting them. that’d be against the rules. Derision and scorn aplenty. Sure.

[QUOTE=Liberal]
I removed your “like yourself” phrase so I could agree with the overall sentiment, because I don’t think the ability applies to Shodan.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that doing that sort of thing was a big no-no, that it was not acceptable to edit another poster’s text when you use the quote tags.

No, Liberal’s edit, in which he removed text and replaced it with ellipses, is within fair usage standards and thus fully within the rules for attributed quote tags. His subsequent description of his alterations was not required by the rules in this case, but always a good idea to avoid any possible confusion.

I’ve seen people make snarky comments in various threads started by drive-by thread starters and at least one time I saw someone get pitted for it. Can’t remember who it was and at the time I didn’t completely agree with the pitting because some of the topics were interesting but all this poster would do is apparently scour the news all day, come to the Dope and start:

He’d do this several times a day and people got sick of him basically showing us the newspaper everyday.

It’s not a race to be the first person to break a headline. WRT RO posts, if it really hits you where you live and you’ve got something to say about, then take the time to say it. Don’t just rush to be the first kid on the block to tell us someone’s using live kittens as catfish bait and you’re cool for being the first person outraged (FPO’d?).

I like our current unofficial system of insulting the OP or taking it to the pit. We don’t need more board rules.

[QUOTE=want2know]
The problem with b) is that you don’t take into account that there might be people on this board who actually read and reply to these threads.

I don’t give a shit. As many have already articulated before me, these sort of posts don’t belong in the Pit.

Yes.

Quoth Giraffe :

“In my opinion, when one group of posters is doing something that sort of annoys another group of posters, it is often more effective for group #2 to speak up about it to group #1 and discuss the issue, rather than petitioning the mods to make a rule to squash the behavior.”

Heh, these are called trainwrecks.
