Anytime anyone says “no pun intended”, what they really mean is “look at this great pun I made. Ain’t I clever”.
Why? It’s a parody of another thread that deserved to be parodied. And it’s funny. Is there a rule against that?
And what does this have to do with Little Nemo’s OP?
No rule, but it doesn’t seem to be in the spirit of the Dope’s stated mission of fighting ignorance. Unless we are fighting ignorance by mocking it. It seems a little jerkish to me. I think it diminishes us.
As for funny, I guess that’s a matter of opinion. I don’t find it humorous.
I thought it was very funny. That thread did need to be parodied but I thought parody threads belong in the pit. But what do I know.
Personally, I agree with cochrane. I didn’t see any need to parody the WTC thread. Somebody being a dick deserves to be taken down; somebody who’s just ignorant of something doesn’t.
That’s always been Cecil’s stock-in-trade.
I agree. People who were kids on 9/11 probably aren’t aware of the WTC’s significance as a financial hub.
It’s a stupid parody thread because there are people, including myself, who did not know about the WTC before this happened. It’s not a part of my life. I see the moon every night.
For a parody thread to be funny, the comparison has to be either be apt, or so ludicrous that humor is in making fun of the perosn who started the parody. This is neither.
So it’s not funny because you didn’t get it? It doesn’t have to universally understandable to be funny to some of us.
