MPSIMS threads closed for being mundane and pointless.

Why? What’s the harm?

I’m not really worked up over it, but I always scratch my head when it happens. If they are so mundane and pointless why not let them devolve and go away on their own?

Examples?

In Twicksters defense this has been an ongoing issue but ----- this thread was getting some good replies in both “actual” and “fun” categories. And some other folks have used MPSIMS to unleash their mental health issues. So all in all I gotta go with “let it stand”.

What thread?

The one that was closed.

Thank you.

I’d wager those other folks also post on plenty of other topics. I recall a search of the guy’s posts revealed that they’re pretty much all in his “woe is me” threads.

I really diodn’t want it to be about this thread. Really, it’s just the latest, and many people here do not like the OP.

Please, could we just address the concept in general?

It’s essentially been addressed. People have raised the issue in the past and the administration’s position is that moderators can close threads if they feel they are too mundane or pointless. Some of us might disagree with that decision but it’s been made.

Yes, it’s the home of all kinds of posts, mundane and pointless, profound and mysterious, funny and meaningful, and that’s great. But it’s not anyone’s personal blog. That’s what is being fought in this example. The SDMB is not your personal blog, if you want one you should go get one and not try to make one here.

OK, just wanted to see the point addressed (again) I guess.

We’ll close this now.

Just put [GAME] in front of the thread title and put in The Game Room. Then your thread can potentially last forever!

If this is about the thread I closed this morning, it was because the staff had instructed the poster in question to stop writing OPs about his mental health issues.

I have closed others because they are totally content-free. It’s a judgment call, which is what they pay me the big bucks for.

Hey! Thanks for rubbing it in our faces.

I agree with this judgement call in JohnClay’s case. I think kayaker does as well, which is why he said he really didn’t want it to be about JohnClay’s [del]blog[/del], er, thread.

We need to talk. These jackboots aren’t free. Ok sure I already had a pair but they do wear out.

As an editor, is this grammatical?

Just an aside observation. I find the interactions here with the mods and other sites to be in sharp contrast. I like the ongoing chat users and mods have here. A little ego and humour on the mods part, outright indignation and humour on the users part. Nice blend!

The house always wins!

You probably got Marley’s old boots. You can tell by looking at the soles. His had cleats.

How fucking hilarious! You’re going to accuse John of blogging when you have threads like “We have pigeon eggs” going on for HOW many years now?
I guess the rule should actually state: No blogging for posters we find annoying. The rest of you are free to blog away.
