Consistancy and Double Standards in MPSIMS (very, very weak and lame)

Just to make this clear from the start, this isn’t me complaining or whining about my topic’s closures, nor is it a true (in the sense) a pit on SkipMagic’s duties or decisions. It’s just made, mostly, for clarification and questions. I probably could have put in in ATMB (which I have done before when threads of mine were closed and concerning other small things I had questions about that were based on admin or mod decisions), but this one, in thinking about how to word it before I made it, seemed to me that it’d be more commenty about the SDMB moderation than my last ones in ATMB were. So therefore, it’s here. :stuck_out_tongue:
However, I really don’t want seem like trying to start any sort of pile-on against any mods… :stuck_out_tongue: I really didn’t open this for that reason. I’m just curious about certain regulations.

In MPSIMS, I started this Food fight. Yes, I did say in the OP of it that I didn’t expect it to last long, but that was mostly just for show. I honestly didn’t see a reason it would be closed and am confused why it would be…but even more confused that this isn’t the first, but the second time a topic of mine has been closed for being too “pointless”.

Ha, I kid. I do realize that there could be some really, really pointless threads that would merit getting shut down (see: “Let’s see how high we can count!” Or "Post one word (a made up one) in your reply to this thread!)…but I really don’t see that (the food fight) as being one of them.

Neither did I this time, which was basically just a “What did you have for dinner?” thread but with a fun spin.
And yeah, I read the other part too…about it being a bit too game-y. But what, Hijack this thread! isn’t? I’d think that Htt would be more pointless (or about equal in pointlessness) to the food fight one.
I also didn’t come up with the idea on my own. I actually read The Straightdope Bar Fight made a couple years ago by Coldfire, and based my food fight around that idea. So it was okay then but now now? (and yes, I know since then the Post count padding and party posts rule was put into effect, but I still don’t really think that thread (nor the Bar fight one) really was either of those; and again, if it was post count padding, then the Hijack thread should have been closed looooong ago, IMHO).
Anyway…it’s not all that important, I know (although someone could probably argue now it was important to me enough to open a pit thread about it)…but it does get under my skin mildly to see my topics get closed for the given reasons but to see others of the same caliber going on.

Again, this isn’t me hating SkipMagic for it. I really like him. I find his humor next to almost none among the mods (well, other than maybe Giraffe) and even laughed at his post in my FF thread. But I still don’t think it should have been closed. I respectfully disagree.

i think there can be too pointless. i can see the fun and friendliness you were trying to get out of the game, but it really doesn’t achieve much, and isnt all that interesting. i think the point of the mpsims forum is to be able to share strange and silly things but ironically, make something intriguing out of them.

this thread is filled with pointless stuff as well. it took forever to go through the charade of defenses you’ve thrown all around. youre apologizing to imaginary people for a perspective that is completely legitimate- just post what you have to say, get to the point, and move on.

Yeah, there can be, but as for the not really achieving anything and not being interesting…well, that could be said for a lot of topics in MPSIMS. Including one I pointed out. And really, interesting is just opinion anyway. :slight_smile:

I was, more or less, just trying to make it clear that this isn’t a standard “FUCK YOU MOD! WIPE YOUR DICK WITH THIS AND STICK IT UP YOUR ASS!” type pit thread. :stuck_out_tongue: But sometimes I can be too wordy, I admit. It’s just my style, I guess.

Yeah, I wondered about that one - the dread spectre of Moderator inconsistency seems to be rearing its head again. Let’s Trade Blows!, which was almost identical in format and silliness as this locked Food Fight thread - random people wandering in and hitting each other with stuff - ran for four pages recently and even made Threadspotting. Wasn’t that equally “game-ish and pointless” too?

Well, I wasn’t complaining. More like just asking for some clarifcation about a topic of mine that got closed when there were others (in the past and recently) that were just like it and/or just as pointless.
The number of topics I’ve made has nothing to do with it as far as I can tell. :confused: I’d still wonder why that one thread was closed even if I had started 1000 threads in the last six months (all unclosed too but the one in question).
I’m fine with my threads being closed. I usually don’t say anything and shrug it off, but it just seemed odd to me about the random closing. Oh, and the reason got to me a jussssssst a tad too. “Too pointless?” In the pointless forum?

Sorry. In my crankiness induced beserker general flailing about I forgot to answer the OP. Yes, there is such a thing as too pointless for MPSIMS. At the end of the day its the mods’ decision. I have a feeling that your posting habits, that is the large amount of OPs you start, may make them a bit quick on the trigger with you. Perhaps if Frank’s balls had descended he could have written that instead of that passive-aggressive shite.

What would I need or want a blog for? I don’t post many stories or tales or ancidotes. I post topics (usually) that ask a question intended to get answers or input from the masses or threads that I think would be fun, interesting, and a be a delightful read (replywise, not OP wise. Examples “In this thread you are 10 years old” “Make a post from the POV of your pet” etc).

It’s not wagon-circling to point out that it was really a stupid thread. There’s interesting stuff in MPSIMS - filling the forum with pointless games like this just makes the forum useless for the rest of us.

It’s not like Idle Thoughts is sharing stories about his life, or commentary on current events. If he was, his posts wouldn’t be a problem.

There is no difference. They are all completely fucking retarded. I guess you could say that a moderator only bothered to close one of them is a difference but that could be for a number of reasons. Maybe they didn’t notice the other ones or maybe after months of your lame ass tedious sub-moronic postings one of them finally got sick and tired of your OP diarrhea. Shut the fuck up already.

Don’t get your blood pressure up, Excalibre, GYBRFE, and others. Its’ not like a few years back when the turnover rate in the forums was so high a poster like IT would have been told to cool it as he was taking up too much valuable real estate. From now on when you see IT’s name as the OP read: you will lose 15 IQ points just by reading this. If you feel like killing brain cells go for it, otherwise just skip the damn thing. Some people enjoy his threads. I’m not a fan so I stay out of them. Simple.
