Can we please shut up about Boise State now, football pundits?

They have been the most over ranked team for awhile. They play on that gimmicky blue field where they think they can get away with using camouflage by wearing the same color uniforms. Last time they played an SEC team that I can remember they lost 48 - 13 to Georgia. They weren’t even good enough to win their own conference this year! They are going to place second in the goddamn WAC. National title contender, my ass. Second place in the WAC is not a national title contender.

I am sick of hearing about these guys. I did not want to hear about these hook and lateraling gimmicky bastards this year, and I don’t want to hear about them anymore. They do not impress me.

You don’t need to win your conference to play for the national title. Nebraska got blown in 2001 by Colorado and did not win the Big 12. Due to other upsets they ended up playing for the title anyway, they lost to Miami.

Oklahoma fan?

Frankly, I always root for teams like Boise and TCU. The BCS is an abomination, and I root for things that may cause it to completely implode.

So you were just sitting on your couch all year steaming with hatred about how a non SEC team dared to play good football? Jesus, they lost one game to a good team in overtime. You know who else has lost games like that? Everybody else in the fucking country (minus Oregon and Auburn).

What happened the last two times Boise played Oregon, btw?

OK, let’s start talking about TCU.

Anything that busts the BCS cartel is a good thing if you ask me.

Nah, I just really, really hate Boise. I’m fine with TCU and everybody else in the hunt. I wish we had a playoff because I think Wisconsin and Stanford both deserve a shot. I just hate Boise. Never liked that blue field or their gimmicky play. :: shrug ::

Also, I was pretty drunk when I posted the OP.

What happened last time Boise played Nevada?

More evidence that we need to cut this BCS shit and put a real playoff system in place.

What happened the last time VT played JMU?

One game doesn’t mean anything. Boise has shown that they’re a quality team over the past few years. The argument has always been that it’s impossible for a team not from one of four conferences to win in a championship game even if they show they can beat good teams. It’s not that Boise should get into a title game, it’s that the existence of Boise and TCU show that one extra game is a stupid way to determine a champion.

You do realize that Boise State has lost four of their last six bowl games, right?

Really? Tell that to Wisconsin, Stanford, Ohio State, and Michigan State.

I dislike the BCS too, and agree there should be a playoff. But that doesn’t eliminate the fact that Boise lost.

ETA: Monkey covered the rest.

The blue field is a matter of opinion, but they haven’t been a gimmick offense for a few years.

In any case, most pro-Boise St. people are really anti-BCS people. So this year they don’t deserve a shot, but the way some people say Boise can’t ever have a shot just pisses us off.

Tell what to them? That they’re good teams? They are. I’m at a loss for what your point could possible be.

Yeah, I know Boise lost. I’m not sure what your point is there either.

I hate Boise state because they beat up my little sister.

To be fair, I think OSU’s president was a dick for his comment - but it did make me laugh

[Nitpick]
There is a playoff, a two team playoff
[/nitpick]

Assuming all relevant teams win next week:

TCU gets left out of a two team playoff, with Oregon and Auburn in the playoff.

4 team playoff: which one loss team gets in, and which 3 one loss teams are out?
Candidates: **Stanford, Ohio St, Wisconsin, Michigan St
**
8 Team playoff: which two loss team gets in the playoff and which ones are out? Only spot available assuming the 7 teams above are automatically in the 8 team playoff.
Candidates: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Virginia Tech, Mizzou, Ok State, Utah, Northern Illinois.

My Point: No matter what playoff system that is devised, deserving teams are GOING TO BE LEFT OUT!

Here’s what you said: “What happened the last two times Boise played Oregon, btw?” I thought you were trying to make a point with that comment, but apparently not.

16 team playoff: Does Northern Illinois get into the playoff, leaving out teams like Alabama, South Carolina, Nevada, etc.

It never stops. Any system that is developed is going to step on toes, more often than not.

It’s not a big problem if team #17 gets left out compared to an undefeated team not getting a chance to play for a title.

No playoff system is perfect , you can’t use minor problems as an excuse to stay with the current idiotic BCS system.

Boise beat Oregon the last two times they played. I was using that as evidence that they can play with the big boys.

I’m not at all advocating that Boise should have a shot this year. Last year I think they should have. They went undefeated and beat the Pac 10 champions in an away game. To me that earns you a ride into an 8 or 16 team playoffs.

notfrommensa You can’t possibly think that’s an argument. Might as well say “yeah, well if we have a 128 team play off then the 129th best team doesn’t get in. So might as well leave out undefeated teams that have big wins against ranked teams.” Get real.

There’s always a cutoff point, but so what? If the field includes every team that can plausibly win it all, that could plausibly be considered the best, then you have a good system. I would suggest that that number is certainly more than two, but certainly not more than sixteen.
