To me, the OP was saying, do this (ignore trolls). What are the on-topic responses besides yes, sire? Wouldn’t one of the on-topic responses be no, sire, I will not do it?
First, Guinastasia and Rilchiam can’t be talking about the same people or I’m missing something pretty big here.
Second, Rilchiam, you just asked everyone to ignore the people you’re describing, then you say you don’t want to make them uncomfortable? How oddly contradictory.

How in holy fuck did half of this thread become about me? Seriously, at least with Hal there has to be some kind of loose ovine reference. I dont mind joking around, and I am somewhat flattered by the attention, but I get ogrish when I’m associated with the T word.

Well as someone who’s recently been called a troll by a mod no less , this post about that fellow, Autolycus, who likes to stick things in his ass, is about the biggest attempt at trollery I’ve ever seen . I had my thread closed and was ridiculed by every sidewinder in this place because of it as well. I should note that I haven’t read the rest of the thread after this post but , I don’t really care as I don’t think it will make a tinkers damn one way or the other . So if it’s okay for what is stuck up Autolycus’s ass to be discussed so freely what other new and exciting topics might we be free to discuss today ?

I will attempt to answer the OP without referring to anyone’s nether regions:
While I share Rilchiam’s frustration with trolls, they do offer an entertaining and sometimes enlightening diversion on the GD board. The recent thread about monster space death rays bringing down the World Trade Center towers, for instance, offered some Dopers the opportunity to seriously rebut the idiocy; others chose to dip their figurative pens into the satiric inkwell; and some of us just wanted to be general smartasses, which is about all a troll truly can expect. I’ll admit I’ve called for moderator intervention in the recent past and may bave been a bit hasty in doing so. Fortunately, the scurvy troll was eventually pitted roundly, then banned. But while he frolicked in The Dope, some people got to sharpen their put-down skills. And sincethe guy was a guest, and obviously not the least bit serious about membership, we got to say thingsto him we’d never say to a fellow Doper, even in the Barbecue Pit.
If nothing else, trolls make the rest of us look good sometimes – and in my case, I need all the help I can get.
Whether you mean to or not, you are sounding like a petulant troll in this thread. Very few posters thought your thread should be closed. Posters that both agreed with you and strongly disagreed with, thought the closing was groundless.
Why don’t you let it drop and understand that much of this thread is just in jest. Have a little fun. Don’t get so uptight over this thread, it is not worth it.

Don’t try to beat around the bush with me my friend . I am a man and if you are too you don’t go throwing around words you don’t mean. I really was not calling you a troll, but looking at the 3 posts in a row you made in this thread, you did sound petulant and met the description of the troll the Op included and I quote. You are right however, petulant does have a connotation of acting like a child. I should have found a nicer synonym or phrase for it.
I think I get your point and if you have let that thread drop, great. Sorry about the petulant part, poor choice of word on my part. My intent was along the lines of “dwelling overly long on a past offense where others had already supported you”.
I am not shy about calling someone a troll outright, if I meant it, I would have said it straight. Please think of my prior post as an opinionated piece of unsolicited frank advice that I felt warranted to post. I hope we’re cool.
