I don’t mean calling someone a lying piece of shit. I mean specifically saying that something they claim they have done is simply untrue.
I’m not a mod, but yes, in the pit, you can. Preferably with strong language.
If they’re all dirty and smelly, it’s the only conclusion left.
Heh. I get it.
Yes, you can definitely call someone a liar in the Pit.
You can say they fuck their own dead mother’s corpse. Why would lying be a bridge too far?
I think it’s reasonable to draw a line between merely noting someone fucked their mother’s corpse and lying that they fucked their mother’s corpse. Are we not gentlemen?
The question is how does one know this since most posters here are anonymous. And if the answer is from real-life information about the poster which is not something the poster has posted here then I believe there are rules here limiting doxing.
I’m surprised no mods have answered this question.
The answer is obvious: yes, you can. If someone claims “I did this” someone else is free to say “bulllshit you did”.
If it’s some super personal thing where the line of argument is “that’s not what you told Jan last week when she was over to clean our apartment”, I bet the mods won’t like it.
The reason for the prohibition on saying someone is lying in GD (and P&E, presumably, since it’s a spinoff) is that it’s seen as attacking the poster, not the post. It’s seen as the same thing as calling them a liar.
Insulting people is 100% fine in the Pit. It can backfire but only in that other people can also attack you.
The things I know you can’t do in the Pit are quite limited. You can’t attack a moderator for their moderation. You can’t threaten violence, break the law, or condone doing so. Hate speech rules still apply, though this is mostly just about certain words or extremely blatantly bigoted statements. Also, the doxxing and “taking things offboard” restrictions still apply.
You also can technically be banned for trolling, but the line is really, really hard to cross. The majority of posters who have been banned for such have admitted to trolling, and even then posts from other forums were also taken into account in light of this new revelation. Or they violated other rules enough that they were given a short leash.
Damn it, sir, yes it would! Have we no standards left in the pit?
We are Gentledevo.
Sure. I’ve been accused of lying that I incredibly lived in two different places in the past 20 years. I’ve been accused of the whopper that I lost my vision gradually over a lifetime. I’ve been accused of making an obviously false “pigs might fly” statement dripping with hyperbole. And I get those same accusations over and over again, because just one is all it takes to poison the water.
So, go for it…
Yeah, accusing other posters of lying is absolutely allowed in the Pit.
Haha! In the three days since I asked, I think the answer has been obvious in the thread I was going to respond in!
But thank you for responding.
