Can you feel makeup on your face?

I’m a guy so I don’t wear makeup but I have used chapstick a few times. I can feel the waxiness and I don’t like it, so I only use it when absolutely necessary. That leads me to wonder whether one can feel other kinds of things on ones face. Can you feel the various products I see on TV? Eye makeup, lipstick, powers, foundation(? the stuff you spread all over) and so many more I don’t understand. I assume you can feel it when you put it on but do you feel it on your face all day long?

No. At least, not anything I’ve ever put on my face. The eyeshadows I use are just powders, but there are creamy eyeshadows. They may have some feeling to them, but I’ve never used them.

My eyeliner is liquid, but has no feeling to it. My foundation is creamy, but just absorbs like a moisturizer would. I don’t normally wear lipstick, but if I do, there is a period of time before the color soaks in that you can feel that your lips are slippery, but it’s doesn’t feel like there’s something on it.

It seems like there are two ways to “feel” something on your skin - a greasy feeling or a “tight” feeling. I don’t think you’d want anything greasy on your skin for any length of time, so that might just exist in temporary things like cleanser or masks. Tightness usually means a coating or dryness, which again is not something you’d want on there, so masks and the drying effect of astringent, which you them use moisturizer over.

The only time I have ever been able to feel makeup on my face is when I allow the cosmetic store people to put it on me. I always go out of there feeling (and looking) like a trollop.

I go for the natural look (using powder foundation) and can’t feel it at all.

It depends on what you’re wearing, and how often you’re wearing it.

On the WHAT side of things, usually powders and moisturizers and serums either sit very lightly on the skin or absorb into it immediately, leaving it difficult if not impossible to feel that there’s anything there (sometimes a problem if you need reminding not to rub your eyes).

On the flip side, there are some VERY heavy creams and liquids that you can easily feel, as well as (in my opinion) some things that are a bit more obvious - false lashes being a prime example.
On the *how often *end, do you wear contact lenses? If so, do you remember how when you started, you could FEEL the lenses on your eyes? Then over time, it sort of faded out, and now you can’t really feel them. Likewise if you’ve changed underwear styles - it feels ODD at first, because it’s different, but then once it becomes routine, it just sort of fades out from your consciousness. Makeup is like that - if you wear eyeliner and creme foundatation every day of the week, then you don’t really feel it, because it feels “normal” to your brain for it to be there, and there’s no point paying attention to it.

I can’t feel anything except for when I glue tons of glitter to my eye lids. And that feeling is more tight than anything else- likely since my eye can’t stretch normally. Since that’s rare, I’m going to say the answer is no.

FWIW, I wear a lot of makeup on my made up days (moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, highlighter, a few eye shadows, eyeliner, 2 kinds of mascara, then whatever on my lips). I also buy good makeup, so that might have something to do with it-- I am much more aware of the cheap stuff, because it never feels quite right on your skin.

I can’t feel eye makeup or blush at all. Sometimes I can smell lipstick or lip gloss but other than that I can’t tell it’s on.

What I can feel is liquid foundation. Drives me nuts, feels like I have slime on my face. I used to use liquid stuff but after using powder mineral foundation for a while I can’t ever go back to the liquid.

I wear makeup daily - very light - and I forget it’s there very quickly. If i have to wear it heavy for something then I might feel it, but mostly I’ll feel the mascara or maybe note the lipstick is drying my lips out. I don’t feel any eyeshadow or anything like that.

Some say they can feel foundation, especially if it’s a thick or heavy coverage foundation. I myself don’t really feel it. The only thing I really feel and dislike is super heavy moisturizer that won’t sink in, especially if it has a thick sunscreen component. Lipsticks, glosses, and balms can have varying feelings - slick, greasy, dry, sticky, etc., but those don’t generally bother me, either, and they usually soak in after a while and feel less tacky.

I don’t wear makeup very often, so yes, I notice a difference when I am wearing mascara (lashes feel heavier, stick to other lashes a bit when I close my eyes) or lipgloss (slimy), in particular. I can’t feel eyeshadow, concealer, or blush though - it’s the lightest layer, I don’t think anyone could.

I don’t usually wear any sort of foundation, but have a couple of times, and when you touch your face, it does feel different to your hand - weirded me out.

One year I went to a Halloween costume party. I went as that dude from The Crow. (New at the time)

I put that eye liner crap on my eyes. Every time my eye would blink, my eye lid would get stuck down. I remember thinking “how the hell do women put up with this shit?”

I guess I must have put too much on or something.

I can’t really “feel” it. It’s more that I can *smell *it all day long. It smells good, so that’s not a problem. But there’s always the underlying knowledge that, “Ooh, I’m wearing makeup today.”

I don’t wear makeup often, maybe if I wore it every day that sensation would wear off.

sometimes I feel my mascara when I wear it too long and it starts to flake into my eyes! Argh!
But I use Bareminerals foundation which serves as a foundation and a power and it’s weightless on my skin.

I don’t feel anything expect sometimes mascara, as April R as mentioned flaking into your eyes and the lipstick, and that I actually like to feel. As for foundation, eye shadow and blush, I forget I wear any of it.

If I have my make-up done by someone at a make-up counter and feel it I’ll go wash my face immediately, it’s a horrible feeling.

You probably used cheap products. My eyeliners are definitely not sticky, even when I raccoon eye it up.

I can feel it, but it is probably due to rarely wearing makeup (like once a year or less often). Two things are probably at work - I don’t wear makeup often enough to become used to the way it feels ; and I am probably just not very good at applying it. It’s been more than 20 years since I wore makeup regularly.

ETA - I also have rosacea and very very sensitive skin. Many skincare and makeup products make my face itch and sting.

In the few times I’ve worn makeup, it was for Halloween, and I noticed it. I’d imagine something lighter would be more bearable, though, especially if one were to wear it more regularly.

In a different case, some friends wanted to see how long they could get my eyelashes, and went at it with the mascara-- that felt pretty heavy, and it did seem to stick, before solidifying.

Same for me. But not rosacea, just sensitive skin.
