can you help me find this book?

looking for a book for my s o, about an asian girl growing up in WW2 America, with the focus on the Japanese concentration camps. dont’ know the author, or the title-sorry. Maybe it’s about 300 pages. Anyone have any idea of the name or the author? -Teppei

Sounds like Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston’s novel, Farewell to Manzanar.

Could it be Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson?

Possibilities:

  • Salted Lemons * author unknown (out of print)
  • Jar of Dreams * author Uchida

Is this a kid’s book or adult book? If it’s children’s you may want to submit it to an awesome service called “Stump the Bookseller” at http://www.logan.com/loganberry/stump.html .

I’m inclined to agree with don’t ask.

Do you remember the bit about the syrup on the rice in the government cafeterias, or perhaps the car with the gear selector mounted on the dashboard? Those, unfortunately, are my most vivid memories of the book–it’s been twenty years since I read it.

it is farewell to manzanar, thanks for the help. told this to my bf, and he said that yeah, that’s one of the books, but he got it confused with the book he really was looking for ( ), which was about a Chinese girl in an Asian country, forgot where, which at the time was being bombed; still, ww2 era. she goes on some sort of journey, meeting lots of people along the way. about 3 times as long as FTM. Any ideas?
