Can you hurt your throat with aerosol whipped cream?

So I was finishing off a bottle of spray whipped cream by spraying what was left directly into my mouth. I wasn’t inhaling it or anything. But about 10 minutes later, my throat started to feel sore. And then I thought oh yeah - the aerosol spray (nitrious?) comes out cold and saps the heat out of the stuff it touches as it expands.

Some of the spray would’ve directly hit my throat as the bottle ran out, since I had a head tilted back and it spraying straight down. Did I hurt myself by damaging the lining of my throat? Is it something serious, is there anything I should do about it?

Hi,

Nitrous oxide? No wonder we’re so happy to slam back that whipped cream.

When my kids were young a can of whipped cream in the fridge didn’t last too long. I frequently caught them, head back, spraying directly into the mouth. They would have jumped at the chance to stay home from school, but never reported sore throats after shots of whipped cream.

I’ll confess, I’ve dispensed whipped cream from can to mouth on occasion too, and never had any throat issues. I can’t imagine what it could be.

Maybe the force of the whipped cream coming out? Perhaps it hit the back of your throat too hard. I have the gag reflex from hell, so I spray it more forward in my mouth.

Could you be allergic to milk products? You don’t break out in hives or have your lips swell up when you consume other milk products, do you? Or maybe you’re coincidentally getting a cold?

I hope your throat feels better. Just get a better technique for spraying whipped cream in your mouth. Don’t give up the whipped cream.
