I got an image of a scene of a movie that is probably from the 80s. These short creatures that may have been children are throwing these little bombs or grenades at the heroes. My memory is they are all in black or maybe burned? It’s definitely a Sci Fi or Fantasy movie that would have been all over HBO at that time. Does this ring any bells? Thanks.

No not that one. They were short like Ewoks not tiny people like in Willow. Also not Time Bandits. Coincidentally I saw both of these recently for the first time in years. My memory is the group were moving through a canyon or forest and the creatures started throwing the bombs at them but I am not sure. Appreciate the guess though.
The Phantasm series had little Ewok-type figures in hooded robes trying to kill the protagonists. It was a horror franchise though, and had lots of funeral and graveyard imagery. And flying death spheres.
Could it be one of the Mad Max movies?

I finally remembered! It was Spacehunter Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. A terrible terrible movie that apparently lives in my head.
