I don’t have much to go on. It was early 2000s I think. The song is supposedly about the main song writer having a falling out with the band and leaving. The song is very long (several minutes). I think the group or the song started with a W (but I wouldn’t count on this) and I’ve heard they are part of the sub-genre Viking Metal.
They’re still around but they’ve gone thru some lineup changes since 2007’s Dark Passion Play. That album was the first with new vocalist Anette Olson; their vocalist now is Floor Jansen. Their brand of symphonic metal hasn’t changed much tho, so you might like their newer material as well as the stuff from Olson’s time with the band. And of course, their older stuff with Tarja is considered classic (by fans of that kind of music).
Also thanks for the recommendations. I’ll definitely check them out. I’m not necessarily a fan of this type of music. There are very few bands that I would say I’m a fan of. But I do like individual songs in a wide variety of genres.
