I have two memories that are from either movies or TV shows. I saw them on TV around 1987 or so but I am not sure what exactly they were. They are almost certainly either US or Canadian made.
I just saw the beginning of one of them, and the end of the other. (It would be weird if both memories are from the same show!)
#1 is about a killer. At the beginning - a woman is looking out her apartment window and is horrified to see a tall, balding man leaning out another window across the courtyard, aiming a rifle at someone down below. A few scenes later she has an encounter with the killer in the apartment building’s laundry room.
#2 is about vampires. At the end of the story - a man is in a high rise apartment with a seductive woman. She tells him, “I hope tonight lasts forever” and then excuses herself to the bathroom. He then walks into another room where he sees a coffin filled with dust. He tells himself, “give me strength” (or something), then goes back into the living room. The woman returns and rushes at him - but the hero moves out of the way, she goes out the window, and she falls a great distance to the ground and dies. A male vampire then appears from somewhere to attack him - and the hero impales the other vampire on a sharp piece of sculpture or something. Very scary stuff
For some reason I assumed for a while that #2 was “The Hunger” with Susan Sarandon - but I was mistaken. Anyone know what these are? Thank you…
This one I know I saw. I think it was a made for TV movie. I remember that scene exactly, but in addition I remember that the female vampire could only be killed by a “righteous” (i.e. god-fearing, never cheats on his wife type) man. When the woman brought him back to her apartment, she started to seduce him and walked out of the room to slip into something more comfortable (an “Endora” style black dress IIRC). When she got back, the guy was protesting “You can’t kill me! I’m a righteous man!” and she sneers “I’ve seen guys like you for centuries. You wear your righteousness like a coat that you can take on & off whenever it’s convenient for you.”
I also remember that the guy had an earlier scene in a diner where he met a more experienced vampire killer - let’s just call him “Van Helsing”. (the one who told him that the female vamp can only be killed by a righteous man.) They got into an argument, and “Van Helsing” was about to storm out. The guy grabbed him, making a commotion that attracted the attention of all the other diner customers. The guy said something like “I’ve waited a long time for some one like you, and now that I’ve found you, I’m not going to just let you go!” The line got followed by some girlish giggling, indicating that a few other customers thought it was a gay lovers’ spat.
Still don’t know the name of it though - something generic like “the Hunger” or “the Thirst”, etc.
I would have to know more about either of those movies, because nothing is ringing a bell. However. *The Hunger *is one of my favorite vampire movies evar (because David Bowie is in it and he is and will always be my first love), so I can tell you one thing for sure. Neither of those movies are The Hunger.
Out of the blue I just remembered this question I asked a while back. No positive IDs then so trying again now - any thoughts?
(go ahead, get the zombie jokes out of the way)
I know exactly what the second movie is. It’s called I, Desire. The ending wasn’t impressive, but I always thought it was a fine vampire movie. Not gory, just creepy.
You rule! And here’s the ending I semi-remembered. I usually hate vampire movies but this one looks damn good.
Looks like it also has that 1980s “Basic Instinct” thing going on where powerful career woman = scary predator. Michael Douglas should have been the male lead here too.
