Can you name this late 70s/early 80s WWII show?

I’m trying to remember the name of a show that would have been on in the late 70s or early 80s. It was a sitcom, about a squad of US Army soldiers in WWII. Unsurprisingly it didn’t last very long. I think they were in Italy. One episode I specifically remember - they find an abandoned German tank, take refuge in it during a rainstorm, only to have a British squad find the tank and prepare to blow it up with a bazooka. They saved themselves by singing some song, maybe “Yankee Doodle”, loudly enough for the Brits to hear them. Any ideas?

My wild guess would be McNamara’s Band, a short lived vehicle for comedian/impressionist John Byner. There seems to be practically nothing on the web about it save an IMDB listing, but my recollection is that it was about a group of former criminals turned commandos who went on a different wacky mission each week.

Something like Baa Baa Black Sheep? I never saw the show, but I read alot of 16 & Tiger Beat, and for some reason I have vague memories of that show being featured in one of their New Guys To Love This Fall issues.

Black Sheep Squadron was about Pappy Boyington’s Marine air wing in the Pacific.

Don’t recognize it, but we will someday need a “Kelly’s Heroes” thread.

(Comes running back to log back in again. It wasn’t Baa Baa Black Sheep! It was Black Sheep Squadron!)

Oh. Never mind.

I am pretty sure the original name was Baa Baa Black Sheep. It was at some point changed to Black Sheep Squadron, though.

You are correct. Baa Baa Black Sheep was the name of the original series, and then it was called Black Sheep Squadron in syndication.

The Retro TV network is doing re-runs at 11 EST, Sundays.

I remember in 7th grade all the girls reminding each other to watch Black Sheep that night, I wondered why would all the girls want to see a TV show about marine fighter pilots. It seems Peter Frampton was a guest star in an episode so they had to see him. Sadly it was not because of the Corsairs, I though some of the girls had seen the light.

There was another short lived 70s WW2 show, Mr. Roberts based upon the Henry Fonda movie. I think it lasted six episodes.
