Newt Gingrich has added a line to his stump speech disdaining energy efficient cars “You can’t put a gun rack in a Volt”. I’ve never seen a gun rack in any sedan, but I don’t see any reason why one couldn’t. I assume most long guns are stored in the trunk - easier access, better security and the only reason trucks have gun racks in the back window is that they lack trunks.
(also, I’d think even hardcore NRA types would find the whole “you won’t like it unless you can somehow attach a gun to it” thing kinda condescending.)
Cool, thanks. Yeah, I’ve never understood the whole “conservative=anti-environmentalist” thing. Most of the hunters I know care deeply about the environment, given that they enjoy spending time in it.
When Dan Akerson said the Volt had become a “political punching bag” he meant it. The GOP is pissing all over the Volt as a proxy for the current administration. As an automotive engineer it pisses me off to hell. The Volt program was given the green light in 2006, and I want anyone with the merest shred of intellectual honesty to try to explain how the fuck Obama had anything to do with that.
One of liberal blogger Atrios’ theorems about conservative politics is that they are for anything that they think pisses off liberals. Gingrich does this more than most among the candidates.
Sarah Palin said on Fox News, “Vote for Newt, annoy a liberal.” (Personally, I’m not at all annoyed at the idea that people might vote for Newt Gingrich in the primaries. Far from it; I hope that they do.)
I don’t know about pissed off, but this liberal nearly pissed his pants laughing when he heard that line about the Volt today on the radio. Maybe Newt’s grand scheme is to get all of us liberals actually pissing, in which case - well played sir.
