Can you suggest some good celtic music?

Something like this:

and this:
⚡️ROYAL SCOTS DRAGOON GUARDS ⚡️ ( Celtic Medley )⚡️ - YouTube (skip to 2:17)

Thanks

The White Cockade
The Garry Owen (best known today for being chosen by Custer as the 7th Cavalry’s march)

I bet you might hear about an artist or two

It really depends on what you like in your examples. If it’s bagpipes, then I’m not about to help as a true gentleman knows how to play them but doesn’t

However searches for:
Emily Smith
Julie Fowlis
Clannad
The Dubliners
The Chieftains
Patrick Street
She moves through the Fair

should yield some good stuff.

The Chieftans are pretty well known for their use of pipes…

A couple of other groups to look for:

Silly Wizard: An example The Fisherman’s Song/Lament for the Fisherman’s Wife

Silly Sisters: An example The Barring of the Door

Both groups since disbanded, but some really great music.

Orthodox Celts is another great group. (and there’s something truly wonderful about a bunch of Serbs doing Celtic music, and damned well.) An example: The Star of the County Down

Dammit, forgot to plug one more group I really enjoy:

Boiled in Lead An Example - The Jolly Tinker

I meant the blowy Highland variety. The Uilleann and Northumbrian bellows-driven ones sound much nicer

Strictly speaking it’s not “Celtic-only” music, since they are recordings of live sessions bringing together singers and instrumentalists from various backgrounds ranging from Celtic folk to American country, but I always liked the BBC’s Transatlantic Sessions.
YouTube has plenty of examples online.

And if you’re totally into bagpipes and want to take a closer look at a more modern and highly improvisational approach to traditional bagpipe tunes, I’d recommend checking out Fred Morrison.

My top three:
Solas

Seven Nations - many samples on their home page.

Hair of the Dog (a local band out of Albany, NY)

If you ever have a chance to grab the CD of a Canadian indie band called Kilt, do so. I saw them at The Irish 2000 festival maybe 9? years ago. Fantastic music, but it seems they’ve disappeared.

I absolutely love Dougie Maclean

If the OP is interested in piping, I would recommend the following:

Simon Fraser Pipe Band Live Down Under

Simon Fraser Pipe Band Live at Carnegie Hall

Stuart Liddle, Inveroran

Rob Crabtree, Piper’s Legacy

Rob Crabtree, The Piper’s Journey

Master Pipers in Recital

Parallel Tracks, by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

As a general rule, i would recommend not buying any CD which has a piper in the full regalia (kilt, military style jacket, bearskin hat, etc.) they’re usually pretty generic.

Also agree with the recommendation for the Chieftains, especially their collaborations with James Galway and Van Morrison. Those are primarily instrumental CDs, with some singing.

For harp, try anything by Derek Bell (sadly, no longer with us), one of the members of the Chieftains.

For singing, would recommend Great Big Sea from Newfoundland, and also the Irish Descendants; also the Masterless Men.

If you’re interested in stuff from further south, check out Hevia and Luar na Lubre.

Pandora has a Celtic music channel that would throw a lot of different stuff at you.

Also Gaelic Storm and seconding Great Big Sea.

Silly Wizard, Dougie MacLean, and Gaelic Storm are favorites of mine that have already been mentioned.

I’ll also recommend Planxty and the BattleField Band.
