The Official ST. Patrick's Day-Celtic Music Thread

Being that St. Paddy’s day is around the corner, I thought to start a thread on the music.

It wouldn’t be St. Paddy’s day without listening to The Cheiftans

Green Linnett 25th anniversary

There are many more that I am drawing a blank on and have to go through my collection.

I prefer The Chieftains to be honest.

I’ll be spending St. Pat’s at a little pub, enjoying the music of Seelie Court. Playing elsewhere locally that night, Dan Marcotte and Molly & The Tinker.

If you’re in the New York area, see if you can find out where Hair of the Dog is playing and go see them. They’re outstanding. Also on the East Coast, Seamus Kennedy.

Planned for my CD player for the week:

The Chieftans
Van Morrison
Blackmore’s Night
The Corrs
Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem
Gaelic Storm
Mary Black
The Fenians
Brigid’s Cross
Minstrels of Mayhem
Wolfstone
Runrig
Natalie MacMaster
Leahy

Enjoy many mentioned, grew up on The Clancy Bros., adore the Chieftains.

Like the Saw Doctors as well as the Young Dubliners.

But I especially love the Pogues.

I saw a group at a small Renaissance Fair last summer. They were called The Starkravens. They sang and played Celtic music and danced too. I bought their CD and really enjoyed it.

They even have a website: www.starkravens.com

I’m guessing they are mostly a local group.

Has to be the Pogues (Shane Mcgowan years) or Flogging Molly.

The Pogues, Black 47, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and U2 for my St. Patrick’s Day birthday playlist.

This week will be dedicated to:

Altan
Deanta
Solas
U2
Capercaillie
Leahy
Van Morrison
Wolfetone
